https://www.npr.org/2025/02/26/nx-s1-5309695/trump-gaza-video

Faye Nemer, CEO and founder of the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) American Chamber of Commerce in Dearborn, Michigan, called the video "offensive and counterproductive to peace talks" in a statement to NPR.

Nemer, who says she voted for Trump in November, is calling on him to remove the video and issue a "reconciliatory statement."

When asked about the video and the president's messaging about Gaza, the White House reinforced his previous statements.

IMO the Muslims who cared about Gaza who did not support Biden are the ultimate FAFO. We warned them over and over that Trump was going to be worse for Gaza than Harris, but they did not want listen. They FAFO.

This I have some friends who live in Michigan and I have absolutely zero compassion for anyone of Middle Eastern descent or anyone who cared about Palestine and voted for Trump.. ... They were very simplistic and short-sighted in their vote and I really do not care what happens to them or Gaza at this point

I hear you. It's really hard to keep extending compassion to people who voted against their own interests and then complain or cry about it later.

Literally, every working class and middle class voter who has voted for a corporate Dem or Republican in every election is voting against their own material interest. What the hell are you talking about?

Stop equating dems and reps, they are not the same.

DP. You are right, they aren't the same. Which is why I have been a steady dem voter since I was in college.

But the democratic leadership, along with a majority of the democratic reps/senators are a problem. They have been okay with the status quo for the less advantaged people in this country, while becoming more corporate over time.

They need to embrace populism and make way for a younger generation of leaders who are passionate and ready to fight for the people.

I feel like dems really screw over their base because we know that they are better than republicans and have no better options at the ballot box. They gave us Trump by pushing Hilary over Bernie. Then they did it again by sticking with Joe for so long. It would have been great to have a real primary. That we didn't was 100% on the democrats.

Yes, Trump is awful. But I have a faint hope that this wakes up the dems to change course.

Trump stole the election. While Dems need to evolve, and Joe will go down as second-worst president in history, this election isn’t on them.

Wow, not even close. He literally got the country out of the COVID economic disaster that trump left, and set a foundation for sustained economic growth for the entirety of his tenure in office. Were there some missteps and challenges? Of course. There always are, but history is going to be VERY kind to Joe Biden's presidency.

+1

Not to mention his brilliant handling of Russia's invasion of Ukraine. Just genius.

Biden was, on the whole, a very good President.

You might want to take some time this weekend to read a US History book. I'm not claiming Biden is top 10 but second worst ever? I think you might be very off with that one.

Iowa has high cancer rates. Trump's cuts to CDC and NIH are already hitting the state
https://www.npr.org/sections/shots-health-news/2025/02/28/nx-s1-5312108/trump-budget-cuts-nih-cdc-cancer-iowa

second highest cancer rate in the country (I never knew that)

From the article:
Evenhouse herself is 73 and has had multiple cancers — in the soft tissue near her spine, as well as her thyroid, blood, and left leg. Most of her doctors work in Iowa City — an hour and a half's drive from where she lives in Pella, the small town best known for manufacturing windows that go by the same name.

Mahaska Health, on the other hand, is a 25-bed hospital that's in Oskaloosa, relatively close to home. From there, Evenhouse can remotely access doctors from around the state to help her decide her care. Recently, for example, a team determined surgery on her back could be performed locally. "For me to go to Iowa City, my whole day is gone," she says. And often it takes up her husband's day, too, because sometimes Evenhouse cannot drive herself home after treatment. So she appreciates the ability to access nationally renowned specialists in her cancers close to home. "It's really an advantage for me because I can see the experts; I can get their input."

But the Iowa Cancer Affiliate Network, which connects Mahaska Health to a group of medical specialists, is funded by federal grants that face immediate, drastic cuts.

Article says nothing about votes for Trump or this woman's politics, but for people in rural areas with serious diseases the impact of such programs is huge.

I bet it's pesticides. My mom's friend died of cancer after being exposed to pesticides on the farm growing up.

I moved to Iowa and was sick the whole first year. Someone there told me that was "normal" and I'd "get over it" after a year. Wtf!? I moved away fast.

OMG!

I saw a comedian playing the role of one of the Musk Teenage Coders and this is exactly what he said. "Why do we need you? We have weather apps?" The response is that, "We provide the data for the weather apps..." Then the Teen Coder is "Like, whatever. What do you really do?"

So only meteorologists employed by the feds know how to predict the weather?

Every meteorologist you’ve ever seen or heard of is using information from the United States Government.

MAGA storm chaser is upset Trump is firing so many weather-related federal workers.

From his Facebook post:

Reed Timmer Extreme Meteorologist

"We have multiple chances for super tornado outbreaks through the middle of March! Now is not the time to carve up the National Weather Service! We at Team Dominator have always been huge supporters of our friends at the NWS. Even I cannot make a forecast without their valuable data and forecast model output. Please contact your representative in support of the NWS. Remember those missed tornado warnings in OK in November due to the office being short staffed? These problems could become more widespread with firings..."

OMG. Yes.

The scientists look at data and numbers and turn that data and numbers into the pretty swirls of clouds and colors we see on our screens.

The main hurricane center was in Miami with the backup center, if Miami went down, in Maryland.

They predict storms and warn people about them. Now, we will not have this info or it will be negatively impacted.

In the future, Trump and friends want to make people pay for this info.

Soon, we will not have weather info.
