Tough day for Mclean/ GF. Both McLean and Langley would have had a decent run at the states but they are in the toughest region. Also, both schools are probably impacted the most by private school bleeds. Kudos to the coaches and boys on both teams for what they have accomplished this year.

Braddock took care of business last night in a dominant 20-7 win over West Springfield.

Alexandria City @ Lake Braddock

All games, Wednesday 5/24/23

Woodson beats Hayfield in Overtime 11-10
Alexandria city beats Falls Church 11-5
Robinson beats South County 19-6
LB beats West Springfield 20-7

Looks like the National district cant hang with the lower seeds from the Patriot district.....

The game showed how critical it is to have a solid FOGO. Madison dominated face offs and completely controlled time of possession.

Madison came out strong right off the bat and took a 3-0 lead. McLean had some life and I think it was 4-2 at the end of first quarter. Then start of second fogo scored and it was downhill from there for McLean.

The anticipated 3rd match-up between Robo and Lake Braddock should be interesting. Robo needs to control FOs.

Not so sure about Freedom just because it's got 1 private school next door. McLean, Langley and Yorktown all have 5-8 top private schools within a short enough distance to poach kids. Add to that the wealth in the area that leads to several kids heading to boarding school and the talent drain in that area is substantial.

Agreed. One neighborhood in Langley district has 3-4 underclass All-Americans including the #1 2024 in the country and one of the top 10 2025s in the country. Would be a different world if everyone stayed home but you have to play with what you have. Yorktown and Madison face some of the same issues but keep finding a way to get it done.

Quarterfinals - June 2-3

Semifinals - June 6-7

Finals - June 10
