If they had the numbers in the Senate, yes. |
It wasn’t even a Catholic thing! Traditionally abortion was allowed until quickening. Then the patriarchy started to get restless and wanted more control. |
| The republicans aren’t going to be able to gerrymander their way out of this. |
Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner. You think this stops at Roe with these “originalists”? They’ve already let it slip sodomy laws next and then interracial marriage. Then maybe blacks and women loose their right to vote… no, I’m not hysterical, your just not paying attention. |
+1 It’s broken. |
Griswold isn't based on any firmer Constitutional grounds than Roe, though. |

United States of America
1776-2000 RIP A future Edward Gibbon will note the eventual collapse starting when George W. Bush took office. After him came: - trillions for endless wars - Citizens United - rise of Federalist Society - and now, end of Roe v. Wade This country is gone. There is no unity. If 9/11 happened today, people would say "so what?7 |
If they said every state should allow abortion to 15 weeks would Manchin or any of the Repubs vote with them? (They need to act now before they lose seats in the midterms) |
Yup. Plus abolishing the fairness doctrine. The US is trash. Thanks to the amoral GOP. |
| If the Texas abortion law hasn't changed Republican popularity in Texas, what makes anyone think it will change the political landscape elsewhere? |
| Dems in conservative-run states should start introducing bills to make men who impregnate women responsible for ALL of their bills related to pregnancy, from doctor appointments to missed days of work to new maternity clothes. And then the hospital bills. And the postnatal bills. And of course all the money to raise the kid. But if life starts from conception then the man needs to be on the hook from the moment of conception, since without his sperm a woman wouldn't have those bills. |
But this Court would strike down such a law, so passing it would be of limited value. The only way to protect abortion rights from assault by the right would be a constitutional amendment, but the left is no where near having the numbers for that. |
