$7/gallon gas is coming

You know. This is crap.

Republicans are NOT against clean energy or renewables. What we are against is throwing out the baby with the bathwater. The technology to go full on green is just not there. We cannot yet all drive EV. Not only are they not affordable for most people, but charging stations are few and far between. And, we still need oil and gas to warm our homes. That is just a fact. Even if the technology were there.... the infrastructure in homes is not. It cannot be done overnight or even over a few years. It will take years to transition.

Why are charging stations few and far between? Well, let's just say, Republicans are not on the right side of this issue:

At least not in NC.

I support this war. I hate that it squeezes low and middle income Americans, but I hate more that we are completely unable to transition off of burning ancient toxic sludge. We've been talking about it for decades, and now the planet is at risk. So if the increased cost moves us towards more green energy, I am for it.

What the left has done is pushed going green to the point that gas and oil companies are holding back on production because they don't want to make the investments to pump when they see the government is trying to make them obsolete. Biden's words today were so full of lies. First off, the oil and gas prices were increasing long before the war in Ukraine. The govt may have "approved" permits, but the BLM has not approved the infrastructure to get the oil out of the ground. The pipes... the roads, etc. So, what is the use of pumping if the oil cannot be moved anywhere?

And, buying oil from Iran or Venezuela is crazy. US has the cleanest production anywhere. If environmentalists really cared, they should be livid about this.

So, what exactly has Biden done that shows he supports oil and gas production in the US? Nothing.

What he SHOULD do, but won't, is to bring in oil and gas executives and have a meeting. He should ask them what they need to ramp up production so that Americans can get some relief. You know.... talk to the experts.

I'm as lefty as they come on certain topics, but I agree that Republicans are coming round on climate change, and that we can't function just yet on renewables alone. We need to INVEST in renewables and the discussion centers on WHICH ONES?

But the new world order, as of two weeks ago, dictates that we shore up the NATO alliance with domestic production of fossil fuels. It's far from ideal, but hopefully it will be short-lived (actually, I know it will be short-lived, because the world is moving on from fossil fuels gradually but inexorably).

Regarding sources of oil, I agree that dense oil like the one in Venezuela is costly to reach. However we need certain grades of oil and the easiest way to get some of those grades is abroad. Plus domestic drilling can' produce right away if we're talking about new sites. But I applaud Biden for reaching out to everyone. That's his job. It doesn't mean we'll sign a contract anytime soon.

"Republicans are coming around on climate change?"
We just came out of 4 years of a Republican administration where federal scientists were being told they weren't even allowed to say the words "climate change."
They still have a very very long way to go and the fossil fuel industry still has an extremely strong hold over them.

Subsidizing oil companies doesn’t do anything for poor people. Public transit, higher minimum wage, childcare assistance, housing assistance, TANF, and a dozen other programs help the working poor.

except the working poor - people who work but are still poor AND also have incomes that are just above the cut of lines for all those programs you mention so yes gas prices and consumer prices increases hurt the working poor a lot.

It's amazing how the right wing is brainwashed into a mistaken belief that Biden has somehow "halted" oil and gas when the Biden administration is still issuing thousands of new oil and gas drilling permits. Or that Keystone XL has something to do with the price of gasoline at their neighborhood pump. Please do a little more actual research folks - from reputable sites on oil and gas production, not the right wing drivelpropaganda sites.

Right, but the Trump administration does not reflect the thoughts of a majority of Republicans. Trump, whose downfall will be his continued support of Putin (he can't ever say he was wrong - just like when he couldn't acknowledge it was wrong to support White Supremacists), represents the worst dregs of the party, and he's now on the outs.

They could issue a million permits, but if the infrastructure and means for getting the oil out of the ground and to refineries aren't approved, then the permits mean squat. And, that is what is happening.

Tell us..... What specifically has Biden done to support US oil and gas drilling?

Kumbaya my lord, kumbaya. Kumbaya, my lord, kumbaya.

Give me nuclear power, kumbaya.
Give me China’s rare earth metal supply, kumbaya.
Give me EV car batteries that die in 5-7 years and need to be disposed of in outer space, kumbaya.
Give me China’s PV thin film industry, kumbaya,
Give me big overpriced wind turbines that break down every other month and cost $500k a year each to maintain, kumbaya.

Kumbaya my lord, kumbaya.

E&P permits? We have 100s of millions of gallons already drilled and capped. Too bad those pipelines and pumps all got not approved by federal legislatures. Maybe begging opec a 5th and 6th time in six months for more capacity output will work, right?

But "Putin's price hike" will?

What or what shall we call this passive and reactive approach? Basic economics? Same as the over stimulus creating inflation? Just basic economics.
