I wonder if it has anything to do with Justin repeatedly doing insane things like asking Lively's trainer for confidential info behind her back, making comments to her on set about pornography and how he "passed" women to his buddy Heath, pawing at and kissing Lively in scenes not scripted for that, claiming (when she complains about the pawing/kissing) that "he's not even attracted to her," trying to force her to be nude in a birth scene and telling her it's "not normal" for women to wear hospital gowns in birth, and telling his producing partner to go show her a nude birthing video with no warning or reason. I never get yelled at for stuff like that, but it's because I don't behave that way. I wonder if those things are related. |
WHY would the trainer respond to Baldoni's request for Lively's weight by (1) not giving it, and (2) immediately telling Lively it had been asked? If this were such a normal thing to do, why does the trainer respond as though it's actually very much not? |
Not even the complaint makes the allegations in the manner you describe. Time to touch grass. |
| Actresses participate in stunts and lifts all the time and generally would guard their weight as a secret, so there must be a protocol that is generally followed. Baldoni had a business purpose to know her weight but went about it in an unprofessional way. That alone isn't gender discrimination or sexual harassment. Could it be part of a general pattern of gender based boundary pushing? Maybe. It's sort of a reach on that but I can understand Lively getting upset about it. And then if she's bringing up her grievances anyway, including this item which is borderline. The problem for her is many of her claims are kind of borderline or not as bad with more context. That's why discovery is going to be intense, because it's a lot of little fact intensive scenarios where more information is needed. |
Uh, they did tell her that her clothes were unflattering and didn't fit her correctly, after the paparazzi photos of her on the first day of filming came out. Justin and Blake met for over an hour to discuss it and Justin said he was "terrified" to have the meeting and wound up crying in the meeting because it was so awkward to tell Blake that they thought she looked fat in her wardrobe. I'm sure he didn't use that word but it was clearly implied. Also, he asks her trainer for her weight after multiple texts between them in which she expresses concern about her weight, explains she's trying to lose 20 lb before she feels good about where she's at, assures him that it's really important for her to look good in the movie, and even asks if they can move "body work" to the end of filming so that she can be in shape for it. The implication of ALL of these conversations was that Lively was too fat and needed to lose weight. Including the one where Justin asked her trainer for her weight. |
DP from person you are responding to but on the contrary Lively’s complaint pretty much does exactly that. |
Agree except to me when you put her complaints in the context of one another, they look more like SH to me than if you look at any of them individually. Like if the only thing she was alleging was that Justin fat shamed her when he asked her trainer for her weight, and then Justin explained "hey I have a bad back, I was worried about this lift," I would say for sure that is not SH and not even fat shaming and was just him handling that situation in a weird way (probably should have gone through a stunt coordinator and not tried to get that info from her trainer). But when I look at that in context with them texting back and forth about her weight specifically prior to that incident, and then the stuff regarding her wardrobe and them flipping out about the paparazzi photos (which I think were much less of a big deal than they seemed to make them out to be -- it was a few photos of like two costumes, and actors often look kind of weird in costume between takes because the hair/makeup/costume is designed to be filmed up close with lighting and everything and it's going to look weird/different via a zoom lens from a distance), it does start to look like they were kind of hassling her about her weight before filming and as filming started, and when this is combined with other inappropriate behavior, it starts to paint a picture for me of a hostile work environment. I think that Baldoni's and Heath's behavior can add up to more than the sum of its parts when taken together as a piece. Were they respectful on set, conscientious about consent and privacy, professional and appropriate? Or were they boundary violating, sometimes crude and inappropriate, and imposing a lot of pressure on Lively regarding her weight and appearance? Altogether, it looks more like the latter than the former. But yes, that depends on lots of details and discovery is going to be a bear because there are so many little incidents. I also think you see people deciding "oh this one incident isn't SH on its own, so none of them are, so it's not SH." I disagree with this logic because of how hostile work environment claims work, but it's clearly a lot of people's instinct and that's a problem for Lively's team. |
I think the topic about the paparazzi photos was the outfit with the mom jeans was that the press was covering that the outfits were horrendous and ridiculous. I remember seeing the pictures and thinking it looked like an alt world Blake Lively from 1988 Omaha. It was not that she looked fat. |

You are such a paid pr piece. I walked away for a few hours, and he we go with the everything can be twisted into SH if you combine a million micro facts.
Unbelievable! |
| This is exactly why JB should not settle. Just insufferable. Let it go. |
Oh come on. Justin fat shamed her by adjusting the lighting and changing the shot angle. He also "fat shamed" by offering plain coffee instead of a mocha latte, the implication being that fat cow Blake did not need the whipped cream and sugar. He lives to fat shame the stars of his films because making them feel like crap contributes to their performance. |
I don’t think I’m PP you’re addressing, though I did write one long comment on the last page. Just noting that the thread will survive without you for more than “a few hours” — really, it’s okay! |
I love that you think that if you "walk away" from the thread for a few hours an in that time, everyone should wait to post any opinions that might differ from yours until you come back. Or maybe you think people just shouldn't post different opinions? |
Uh, no, he fat shamed her by asking her trainer to disclose her weight and complaining how she looked in her costumes. |
And somehow he has zero complaints like this until Blake. Maybe something fell on his head and he changed personalities. |
