Portion control not helping with weight loss

Anonymous
I am feeling very frustrated. Have been *religiously* tracking calories on MyFitnessPal for the past month - have averaged 1350 calories a day and reduced my intake of carbohydrates while increasing my intake of protein. I've worked out an average 3 times a week in addition to taking long walks and being generally active. I make sure to drink a lot of water, and (mostly) avoid sweets. Despite this, I've lost ONE pound. I'm at my wits end!

I want to lose 1-2 pounds a week. Please tell me what I need to do to lose more quickly. TIA!

Cut more calories.

1200? 1000? 1350 seems low to me already, especially as I'm working out and am active.

Are you weighing and measuring everything? I mean everything.

How much fruit do you eat? Are you eating too much soy?

You aren't eating enough.

Try a strict Whole 30 and see if you feel better without things you may be sensitive to.

You need to cut 500 calories per day from your resting metabolic rate to lose one pound per week. If your metabolism is slow (and RMR is largely based on height, as well as sex, age, and body composition), your daily need might be low.

For me, the online calculators were wildly inaccurate. I only burn 980 calories per day.

I don't weigh, but I do measure everything. I don't eat any soy products. Don't eat much fruit.

I was on 1400 a day with 40 minutes of cardio and still didnt lose much. 1250 a day is my magic number. I lost 3 lbs a month on 1250 until my goal weight and now can maintain around on 1300-1500 depending on activity. It sucks.

I think you need to go down to 1200 calories and see how that works. I've used my fitness pal too and agree with others that you have to find your magic number.

OP here - thank you for this! It does freaking suck.

What kind of exercising are you doing? Building muscle through strength training will increase your metabolism over time, which make it easier to lose/maintain your weight.

I keep hearing this. I do yoga and intense cardio (think the Insanity videos) in addition to lots of walking.

Op--how much do you weigh and how tall are you ?

Give us a sample menu of your day.

Your body likes the weight you are at and is resisting. It sucks but that's what it is and you have to drastically alter things.

You have to cut down calories more. That is the only way to lose weight. Cut down all portion sizes another 25%.
