Bra on Christmas list.

Anonymous
Hi all, just wondered what your opinion was on this?. My daughter is 8 (9 in Feb) and I have finally been given her final revised Christmas list and on it she has asked for some bras. She's been wearing the over head crop tops for a couple of years but looking at the ones she asked for they are proper fasten at the back bras. I can't say she has any noticeable budding or any other signs of development nor mentioned she wanted to start wearing bras so this has come as a surprise.
Bye for now.

I had bras at 9. It made me feel girly and the other girls had them. No padding.

This made me smile. (Maybe something to put in the bra will be on next year's list.)

Aw it's cute. I wasn't the kind of girl to be waiting on puberty I was very much what we used to call a tomboy. My sisters on the other hand were all about this stuff.
I don't see the harm in getting her one.

I bought the Hanes bras (they come in small, medium and large) for my 9 year old DD, because so many shirts are sheer or thin these days. They don't have the clasps in back, though - she pulls them over her head. They look like sports bras, and they're soft and comfortable. I got them at Target in the kids' section, near the socks/underwear, etc.

I think it's cute. I would definitely get her one.

Well bless her heart.

Ridiculous. Was this in a Santa letter? Just say no, OP.

Why?

Because she is 8 and has no breast development that necessitates a bra.

And why is this in the tweets and teens forum? An 8 yo is neither.

Why such a rush to grow up from daughter and mother??

tweens not tweets. Sorry!

If she wants a bra like that, and you can find one in her size, and it's not ridiculously expensive, why would you not get her one?

If you don't have a problem with a flat-chested six-year-old wearing an over-the-head bra, I don't understand why you'd have a problem with a flat-chested eight-year-old wearing a close-at-the-back bra.

Curious are you a dad or a mom?

I would not get a bra for a girl who doesn't need one yet. I don't do Christmas, but if I did, maybe. I'd have mrs. Claus write your girl a note explaining that shell get a bra when her body dictates the need for one.
