She's apple shaped, which is unfortunate and probably exacerbated by the fact she's had a baby and is older. (I say this as someone who has an apple shaped body as well.) If you're fat, it sucks bc you just look pregnant, but if you're thin you don't look pregnant you just don't have a particularly narrow waist. So I think she wears big belts to create a feature she doesn't necessarily have. However, I do think a narrow belt would work better for this.

Does she still have that same stylist? I think he's a hack. They clearly decided she was going to do formidable hats, but this one is the worst iteration. The pitch of the brim is completely out of place indoors, she looks like she would be walking into walls. The column dresses are another thing he's pushed. At least one was a custom design. I completely disagree that this is her look. She has so little real estate between boob and hip, belting just emphasizes that. Now she's got uneven breasts and a heavy boning line on one side. It's bad.

I agree. I think she looks fantastic. The dress is a sophisticated look that suits her. Hair and makeup on point. The only thing I don't care for is the color of the sash with the yellow, but other than that I think it's a great look and entirely elegant and appropriate. The clutching pearls comments are hilarious.

I am not clutching my pearls. I just think the yellow is ugly and that weird pastel pink belt doesn’t go with the yellow or off the shoulder look. Melania’s stylist must secretly hate her.

Melania girl... what are you doing.

Unbelievable. I hope her luggage was lost. No other explanation. Definitely has gained substantial weight recently.
But to dress as the big banana (republic)?
Looks like etiquette dictates long sleeves and nigh neck. But no, she had to take a page out of Meghan Markle playbook and have her shoulders on full naked display.
This is really bad.

Oh, goodness. You must have been so appalled when Michelle Obama wore this to a white tie dinner w/Queen Elizabeth. Shoulders on "full naked display"!!! The horror. And don't say, "well at least she was wearing full length gloves!" Melania had long sleeves, so no need for any gloves at all. Not that they're even required anymore, as seen with the Spanish queen.

I don't know what the naked shoulders people are complaining about but gosh, look how good michelle looks. Is this so hard? Or is Melania going for a high fashion avant garde thing? I don't even hate the banana outfit, but the fact that I'm going to be able to say "banana dress" for the rest of this administration and you'll all know what I'm talking about is a problem.

The shoulders don’t bother me but I think it’s the combo of the shoulders plus the bright color plus the very simple cut and fabric plus the belt all just makes it read more casual than the event requires. That’s the different between the MO white dress and the Queen L dress and this one. It all just reads kind of “fun” which is not the vibe for this event. It’s the kind of cut that someone like Jennifer Anniston wears all the time — simple clean lines. The crusty old Windsor Palace with an octogenarian host is rather the place to pull out your more staid looks.

And if she had worn something more "staid," the same people would be complaining about that - "boring! matronly!" I mean, she really can't win and she certainly can't please everyone. Nor should she try.

I really wish we could see the shoes.

I keep seeing this but politely disagree with you all! I think a spring yellow is like a daffodil or a butter...lighter, more creamy, pale. This is saturated and reads as a late summer/early fall yellow to me.

Completely agree. This is no pale, spring, pastel yellow. It's a deep, vibrant yellow/gold and perfect for late summer/early fall.

Right. When I think of "spring yellow" I think of the yellow dress she actually wore to the last UK state dinner:

That's a spring yellow!

What is wrong with Donnie's teeth? Why are they glowing? Mellie's dress is NASTY.

They always look like that. They're veneers.

The BRF meet and greet seems very coordinated on the fashion front. Melania's hat matches Kate's dress. Trump and William are wearing extremely similar ties.

With Charles and Camilla, there's a blue theme going on. Melania's suit reads as very dark blue in this photo, Trump's is clearly navy, and then Chuck and Cam in lighter shades:

The hat though, OMG the hat. I think Melania just really loves this look, loves being able to shield half her face from cameras at an official event, and also probably likes trolling people. If her husband wasn't the worst thing to happen to American politics, I would find her amusing.

This hat is insane.

The suit looks good on her, but she looks like an extra from Gattaca.

Melania Trump's canary yellow dress at UK state dinner divides critics: 'She looks like a banana!'

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/femail/article-15108773/amp/melania-trump-yellow-dress-uk-state-dinner.html

Melania Trump's bright yellow dress has been branded 'ridiculous' by some unimpressed social media users, who also likened her outfit to a banana.

Accompanied by her husband, President Donald Trump, Melania stepped out in an off the shoulder number.

She accessorized the dress with a chunky baby pink belt and huge emerald earrings.

The look failed to land social media users though, who were quick to slate it online.

Taking to X one simply said: 'Melania's dress - not impressed.'

'Melania, what's going on? What's happening?' asked another.

'Omg,' a third posted. 'Melania's dress is hideous! She looks like a giant Easter egg or something in that canary yellow with the purple belt.'
A fourth continued: 'Why did Melania dress like a banana?'

"Melania's hat is not by chance," said Marian Kwei, a celebrity stylist and Vogue contributor

"The hat with the wide brim that hides her face is pointing to a stance where she wants all eyes on her husband and his agenda while here," she added.

I maintain my analysis that to Melania clothes are armour: the crazy hats, the coats, the military style jackets, are all meant to create distance and send a message: don’t touch me.

I think there is something to this. I wonder if she just hates the public eye so much that she doesn't dress for it.

I think this is exactly it, similar to Usha. Neither of these women married a politician, and I think if you had asked them when they first met Donald and JD "hey, do you want to be a politician's wife?" they'd both be like fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck no. Melania wanted to be a socialite, free to do the occasional jewelry line for QVC, and Usha wanted to be a lawyer in her own right.

So neither of them dress for the public eye. Melania dresses the way she likes, which is high fashion, sharp angles, edgy shit; Usha dresses the way she likes which is "frazzled mom on the go." They both refuse to give in and do the blond barrel curls with a pink dress look.

Well, it’s career duicide for the stylist. But if she wants to make a mockery of the royal family, she nailed it!
Here’s a way to look fat, look disrespectful, look deranged- all at once. It must be a message.

*side note Catherine chose to wear gold, rare for her, because well, the Oval Office and trump likes sparkly gold things

I don't think Melania looks fat. She looks normal sized. She's a tall woman and is not naturally skinny.

Is Melania throwing shade at the royal family by consistently wearing cowardly yellow to state banquets in her husband’s honor?

It was not until I saw your comment that I realized Melania is in that photo. Just OMG.

Same! I kept looking at it and literally did not see her. OMG.
