That is *gorgeous*! I don't think I ever saw this one, thanks for posting! |
I think this is exactly it, similar to Usha. Neither of these women married a politician, and I think if you had asked them when they first met Donald and JD "hey, do you want to be a politician's wife?" they'd both be like fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck no. Melania wanted to be a socialite, free to do the occasional jewelry line for QVC, and Usha wanted to be a lawyer in her own right. So neither of them dress for the public eye. Melania dresses the way she likes, which is high fashion, sharp angles, edgy shit; Usha dresses the way she likes which is "frazzled mom on the go." They both refuse to give in and do the blond barrel curls with a pink dress look. |
I don't think Melania looks fat. She looks normal sized. She's a tall woman and is not naturally skinny. |
Is Melania throwing shade at the royal family by consistently wearing cowardly yellow to state banquets in her husband’s honor? |
Same! I kept looking at it and literally did not see her. OMG. |
Agreed, and especially with the lavender belt and bright green earrings. Even though the Hamburglar hat is stupid, the color was really nice and perfect for late September. Which is another problem -- there is zero relationship between any of her outfits. The floor length trench was weird but it was Burberry, so you think "okay we're going classic British fashion with a twist." But no, the next thing she wears is a Dior suit with an exaggerated waist and the Hamburglar hat, in funereal colors. Okaaaaay, at least the suit pretty classic, though not British? Dior always looks a little retro. So maybe we're going with an update on mid-20th century style, I could see that working for Melania -- AHAHAHAHA just kidding now she's wearing a banana yellow off-the-shoulder gown in an Easter palette. The colors say 80s, the designer is American, the accessorizing says "I'm blind." I generally think of Melania has having a somewhat sophisticated taste in clothes but wth. Many the strain of this stupid administration is taking its toll on her mental health. |
I don’t like what’s going on with the underboob of this dress but I do like it better than the banana dress. |
She's also almost 60 years old. She's a former model who knows how to look good. I think at 57 Melania understands the adage "You can choose your ass or your face" and she chose her face. |
I agree this dress is all wrong for this event, but somehow I don't hate it. I think this would actually be a fun look for spring or summer if it was knee length. And she looks good. Compared to the cheeto it's not a high bar, however. |
Agree on the suit. I kind of wish she had gone a more British route for the suit. Some examples of British suiting from Kate: ![]() Erdem ![]() Katherine Walker ![]() Emilia Wickstead |
Maybe she’s trying to be a banana because her husband is orange? |
The lavender belt and bright green earrings are why it reads as spring. If she'd gone with a jewel tone purple in the belt or kept the green more muted, it would feel more like early fall. That lavender is really what is throwing people off. It also doesn't go with that goldenrod yellow at all. Yellow and purple are complementary colors but this saturated, vibrant yellow with the pale lavender just feels off to me. |
I think if you automatically assume a yellow dress = looking like a banana, you have pedestrian taste and no one needs to hear your thoughts on Carolina Herrera.
And I say this as someone who hates the Trump family and everything they stand for. |
Another angle

It is striking how much Trump has aged. |
