Just wanted to inform you in case you weren't aware that the program might be shut down due to budget cuts. I have children in this program and am happy to see how they are learning the language so well. I think it would be a great loss if it is shut down.
If you would like to see the program continue please sign the following petition https://www.change.org/p/fairfax-county-save-language-immersion-programs-in-fairfax-county-schools?recruiter=429535550&utm_source=share_petition&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=share_email_responsive thanks |
| immersion is a waste of money especially for things like German, Japanese and all the other languages no one will continue to use. i am all for shutting it down. |
OP said her child is in Spanish immersion. |
| Your topic says they are being shut down and then you added "might" in your post... |
| Spanish is an extremely easy language to learn. |
| God, I hope they do shut it down. It's yet another program with few proven - actually NO proven benefits - except to get kids out of a base school they don't like and make it sound like they are getting some kind of "special" program here in wonderful FCPS. Good riddance to a waste of money and resources. |
| They should keep the dual Spanish programs open. |
| Just signed, OP! Thanks for organizing. So heartened to see that we are close to the 1000 signature goal! Our school is also doing a letter writing/email/phone call campaign to our Board of Supervisors representative. |
| Thanks for sharing, OP! I signed last night, glad to see the number climbing! |
ha. Yes. And how much will you really remember? Here’s Father Guido Sarducci on the 5 minute University (First part is on Spanish). |

| dumb idea you dont need to pay for this program when many schools have 80% spanish speakers |
|
Sounds like AAP. |
actually, our base school would be fine. But immersion was an opportunity we put our name in for, got waitlisted and then called in second grade when we never expected. It has been great. And guess what, we chose that over AAP! (And we are OOB.) |
