As people know, Janie Strauss beat her Republican opponent, Pete Kurzenhauser, for the Dranesville seat on the FCPS School Board race last night. I looked at the precinct data. Of 30 precincts, Strauss won 21 and lost eight, with one virtual tie. They break down as follows:
Herndon HS precincts: 6-0 McLean HS precincts: 10-0-1 Marshall HS precinct: 1-0 Westfield HS precinct: 1-0 Absentee precinct: 1-0 Precinct equally split between McLean/Langley HS: 1-0 Langley HS precincts: 1-8 I probably wouldn't be looking for too many favors from Strauss over the next four years if my kids were at Langley. She used to go to great lengths to protect the Langley boundaries from any changes, or from even being included within the scope of FCPS boundary studies, and the Langley parents respond by trying to unseat her. |
It isn't ms Strauss. It is the same with all Democrats in those precincts. It is a Republican enclave. This is not news. |
| If you look at the Board of Supervisors race, though, Foust won three of the nine Langley precinct and tied with Chronis in a fourth. It wasn't as one-sided. |
| Strauss has detractors in the Democratic party too. Many of us would like for her to retire. |
|
Look at Forestville statistics
it is republican rich fat cats. Barbara A. Favola lost to George V. Forakis - 45% to 55% She is outstanding, these are people that vote party line. |
And Chronis ran a poor campaign. |
But not as many of us as voted for her rather than Kurzenhauser. The Langley precincts don't seem to matter in Dranesville elections. The people there vote like people in Clifton or Haymarket, whereas others in Dranesville vote more like people in Arlington or FCC. |
I used to work for Ms. Favola - I wish I was in her district and could vote for her! She is just a wonderful person. |
| You probably heard the talk from Pete and his supporters that Langley was not getting its fair share of resources. How come Langley offers 6 foreign languages whereas McLean only has 4?Are those paid for by the PTA? |
| The whole vibe I got from Chronis, Parisot and Kurzenhauser was that they were only running to represent people in Great Falls and western McLean who feel they aren't getting their "fair share" of county resources. I don't know how you win any election in NoVa when you pitch your message to such a small group, no matter how wealthy they are, |
| She's a complete disaster. |
Go tell the Dranesville voters who differ with your assessment and have repeatedly re-elected her over any number of Republican opponents. |
+1 I live in Dranesville, and while she and I may not agree on every issue, I find her thoughtful and respectful. She always does her homework on every issue. The Republicans out here seem to think that if you say "waste at Gatehouse" enough times, it signifies good governance. They seem to have no other platform to run on, really. They're just reflexively anti-tax, and so they go with the obvious tactic of pointing the finger at "waste." When Janie decides to retire, I hope we can find somebody who's similarly intelligent to represent us. |
Believe it or not, there are many Langley families who would support a boundary change. The school is excellent, but the commute is just too far for some of us. I didn't vote for Strauss because she seems completely disinterested in drastically scaling back AAP, which has exploded within the Langley pyramid and become somewhat of a joke. I'm not sure what kind of favors you think she's been granting those of us with kids at Langley. |
Where did Kurzenhauser say he was in favor of revising Langley's boundaries to make the school more diverse or scaling back AAP enrollment? |
