Langley Gives Janie Strauss the Finger

Go tell the Dranesville voters who differ with your assessment and have repeatedly re-elected her over any number of Republican opponents.

This tells me that you and others are voting for her because she's endorsed by the Democrats not because she's good at her job.

The funny thing, is, it's true. Our district pays for most of FFX Cty.

+1 I live in Dranesville, and while she and I may not agree on every issue, I find her thoughtful and respectful. She always does her homework on every issue. The Republicans out here seem to think that if you say "waste at Gatehouse" enough times, it signifies good governance. They seem to have no other platform to run on, really. They're just reflexively anti-tax, and so they go with the obvious tactic of pointing the finger at "waste." When Janie decides to retire, I hope we can find somebody who's similarly intelligent to represent us.

Please. The freaking school board threatened to 'make sure my daughter never got her driver's license in VA' because she DARED take driver's ed through a private, DMV-approved school, rather than stay at Langley and complete their program (she changed from public to private). DMV laughed their asses off.

Herndon HS precincts: 6-0
McLean HS precincts: 10-0-1
Marshall HS precinct: 1-0
Westfield HS precinct: 1-0
Absentee precinct: 1-0
Precinct equally split between McLean/Langley HS: 1-0
Langley HS precincts: 1-8

I probably wouldn't be looking for too many favors from Strauss over the next four years if my kids were at Langley. She used to go to great lengths to protect the Langley boundaries from any changes, or from even being included within the scope of FCPS boundary studies, and the Langley parents respond by trying to unseat her.

Believe it or not, there are many Langley families who would support a boundary change. The school is excellent, but the commute is just too far for some of us.

I didn't vote for Strauss because she seems completely disinterested in drastically scaling back AAP, which has exploded within the Langley pyramid and become somewhat of a joke. I'm not sure what kind of favors you think she's been granting those of us with kids at Langley.

True, all.

Just like nova pays for the rest of the state.

Arrogant and untrue.

It's time for the School Board, starting with Janie Strauss, to take stock of how unappreciative the Langley community is of their advantages (lower burden of educating ESOL/FARMS students than other county schools, access to both AAP centers and non-center middle schools, course offerings not available in other pyramids, multi-million renovation of Langley HS, etc.).

Start by moving all Langley AAP students to Cooper and follow up by redistricting to add more diversity to the school. Maybe then class sizes can be brought down a notch there and the parents who are out of step with the rest of Dranesville will stop whining that they get nothing in return for their taxes.

"Add more diversity" to Langley? I assume you mean non-white, non-Asian? What kind of powers might the school board have to make that happen?

If the School Board could find ways to justify sending white kids in Great Falls near the Loudoun border to Langley, they can find ways to boost the ESOL and FARMS rates there, too. Just look at the map.

It would be a good reality check for the people there who don't seem to realize that they live in a bubble of privilege of how jarring it is when they claim that they are not getting their fair share.

Easy boundary changes.

Some of those Langley kids need to start going to Herndon. They just live too far away. Langley/Mclean needs some apartments.

And half of Tysons and those little Mclean pockets along the toll road should go to Langley. Anyone south of route 7 should go to Herndon or South Lakes.

If you want to increase diversity at Langley, you don't start moving more single-family neighborhoods in Vienna near Route 7 or the Toll Road out of McLean or Marshall to Langley. You simply move some of the apartment complexes in Tysons zoned for Marshall and McLean there.

Your logic is flawed. I simply pointed out that she has repeatedly defeated Republican candidates.

Janie is smart enough to know she doesn't need the Langley district to win. I think she's terrific.

I am not in the Langley district and have had two extremely negative experiences with Strauss. I votes for her republican challenger the last go,round and wrote someone else in this go,round. I can not in good conscious vote for her and I know several other families with similar experiences. Her constituent services are deplorable.
