That would be useful information to have.

right. it's a legwork nobody is going to do. what we do know is that men are penalized more often than women. however, they are also tantruming more.

Ugh, that's the same garbage women get hit with all the time when they try to stand up to sexism -- who cares what men are allowed to get away with, you just keep your pretty little head down for the comfort of everyone else.

And what makes it worse is that Martina was the one who would complain and cry on the court when Everett wouldn't make a sound. Martina is the very person she is criticizing. I always thought she was racist after she started doing commentary because of her non stop criticism for the Williams sisters. She would go after both of them and criticized them for the very illogical fault of "relying on their athleticism to win". Martina was a muscular woman who was made fun of for steroid use, being a man etc. She is amazing in her lack of self reflection.

yup everyone not celebrating a major tantrum by a celebrity who works several hundred million, holds every lucrative endorsement deal in existence and who snapchats with models in her free time is a racist. sounds legit.

After many decades of being a tennis fan, this is patently false. I have seen the top male players go on and on and on.

It was an embarrassingly sexist assertion that just helps the sexist behavior continue.

And to people who get angry about any mention of racial prejudice against the Williams sisters, sit down, shut up, and educate yourself. There's a lot of it internationally.

She started crying

There's no crying in tennis.

There's endless amounts of crying in every single sport. From 3yo soccer to senior's softball.

Then every single tennis player including RF are cheaters. One of her sisters was murdered by a man. Is that what you meant?

I think they were talking about the fatal car crash that Venus was involved in and is being sued over.

Long time athlete... you know who fights with referees on calls? Losers! People can get all in arms but Serena’s a magnificent athlete but lost this tournament.

Tom Brady fights with the refs all the time. Is he a loser?

I think Djokovic got a penalty for racquet smashing this US Open, I think French Open too. If they smash the racquet they get a penalty. Kyrgious got a penalty at French Open for it.

The video is of this official and his reactions to men who have acted out. The video apparently shows men behavior that was as bad and worse than Serena but no foul/penalty was called. Not one.

There have been tennis players, men and women, who have come to her defense. This is not to excuse all of her behavior. But the fact is that she was treated differently.

I am frankly tired of women being labeled as loud, obnoxious, hysterical, bitchy, etc. when they act in a manner other than a doormat. She stood up for herself as male players have. She was penalize and they were not (by this official). I'm guessing this guy did not like this little lady challenging him. That's sexism plain and simple.

She started off calmly reasoning with the official. But when she started yelling and busting her racket she had lost control of temper. Losing control of yourself like that is not ever going to make you look good. I get that she was frustrated. But it is what it is. Stupid officiating doesn't give you the license to lose your sh*t like that.

Come on. You really think that other female athletes should emulate this sort of behavior as a form of girl power? Don't be ridiculous. There is nothing powerful about losing control of yourself like that.

Are you able to read? I mean that seriously. Because that cannot be what you took away from the above.

I'm not justifying her actions (or saying it's something to emulate) with smashing the racquet. No one is. However, many tennis players, commentators have looked at the videos and studied the stats. Including of this particular referee. ALL have said that he treated her differently. From the get go with the stupid penalty about coaching, which they all said everyone does and no one ever calls it. Of course that calls into question why it's not done away with altogether, but that's beside the point. You either call it every time or not at all. And this time it was called and should not have been. From there, the referee could have done any number of things. We know this b/c there is video of him dealing with behavior equal to and worse than Serena's. Again, HE DID NOTHING in those instances.

This doesn't justify her outburst. But, honestly, I'm inclined to give her some of the benefit here. She was treated unfairly and she lost her cool. She stood up for herself. And good for her. Those criticizing her for that, and making her actions the focus of what happened rather than the discriminatory actions of the referee, are missing the point entirely. ENTIRELY.

From a man's perspective:
For the men who hate Serena, I get it. In sports there's always a villain. Whether it's because she's dominant, unattractive, intimidating, or black, you have your reasons to not like her. I get it...it's sports and you can have your own opinion.

However, for the women railing against Serena, shame on you! Serena has single handedly raised the profile of women's tennis (and women's sports) to a level 10x higher than it was before she arrived. Nobody, besides true women's tennis fans ever watched a women's match before her. She (and Venus) are solely responsible for the television ratings and prize money being equal to the men's. She is a pioneer in giving women their own sportswear and product endorsements. In short, she is the most significant thing to happen to women's sports since Title IX.

Now you women wonder why men don't take women's athletics seriously. You don't support each other and when someone is dominant, aggressive and outspoken, you turn on her.

We all know that this discussion has nothing to do with what happened during the US Open Finals.
