| Both the victim and suspect were on juvenile probation |

Op here. I don’t know if you are trying to be funny because I’m being very serious. I’m posting here out of desperation. No one can answer this and it’s been well over 24 hours later. |
|
The press conference and news articles all say the assigned CEO officer was at Lakewood.
If the Lakewood principal and staff all say he was not, this is a huge accountability issue. What in the world is going on? |
I think everyone is being very serious. After reading MCPS threads for years, you start to see posters are asking the same things of and from MCPS, Board of Ed, County Council and schools. Parents were wondering why there had been no communication to all families in the school district re: Wootton incident. Then, MCPS sends a letter. It seems like basic communication should be happening (e.g. was a CEO present in the cluster at time of incident? |
OP again. The location of the CEO seems to be the very basic of all questions, after who was the victim and who was the shooter and where is the fun. As a parent with a kid in Lakewood and another at Wootton, I cannot understand why I’m being told directly contradicting statements from a principal vs the police. It’s more than 24 hours later: answering where the CEO was shouldn’t be a hard question. |
| How MANY CEOs are actually in MCPS? And does Wootton have more than one CEO and does that other CEO work under City of Rockville Police department? Did they not know which of the two CEOs (if there are two) were to report to Wootton? |
I don’t know the answer to your first question about how many CEO in MCPS, but Wootton only has one CEO and he is considered an employee of Rockville police. He was reported to be at Lakewood by the police. But Lakewood leadership and staff are saying they never called for him nor did anyone see him on campus. |
Business for Lakewood wouldn't necessarily mean being at Lakewood. I'm curious- why do you think this is important? Surely you don't think it would have changed anything if he was at Wootton during the shooting. |
+1. It is not like he could have prevented it if he was at Wootton at that time. |
This is a direct quote from Chief West: “At the time of the shooting, however, the community engagement officer was “attending to an issue at Lakewood Elementary School,” West said. He did not elaborate on the nature of the incident.” Also suppose he was doing business for Lakewood but not at Lakewood, which I don’t even know what that means, why does our Lakewood principal have zero clue of what this business could be? Why is this important? Please tell me you are joking. Could he have possibly stopped the shooting? Maybe he would’ve known the ongoing and escalating conflict between the kids week before Monday. Maybe he would’ve known a girl had already been threatened with the gun earlier. Or maybe next time, it won’t be a targeted student vs student shooting but a school-wide shooting in MCPS. Do you feel safer with your kid in school knowing that the police and MCPS can’t even agree on where the CEO was? Why does it matter? Do we even give a shit about student safety or school accountability? Why does it matter???? |
|
If parents’ reaction to the fact that the Wootton parents haven’t been concretely told where the CEO was is why does it matter…
For my own sanity, I can’t have this conversation with you all. My oldest spent hours unable to reunite with our family. The ability to answer some simple facts about where key personnel was should be straightforward. To the parents who say: who cares? Why does it matter where he is? Why does it matter that the police and MCPS are contradicting each other… You better hope your CEO is on campus when there’s a shooting at your kids’ MCPS school. |
| It just sounds sketchy and disorganized. People want the honest facts. If they didn't know where the CEO was just say that. Lying sounds worse and makes parents distrust the principal and the system that's supposed to keep their kids safe with certain number of security guards, a CEO, etc. transparency and honesty is what parents want. Too many unknowns and it just feels like the school isn't saying something. Details are vague. Also aren't there security cameras all over the school? If a gun was pointed at another student, wouldn't cameras pick up on that and a security guard could act on it if monitoring cameras. I'm grateful my kid is in a school with guards, cameras and metal detectors. |
I think there is one per high school but they also help with the feeder ms and es. Thank Jawando. |

Everyone discounts the effectiveness of CEO's but that's because you don't hear about the things that didn't happen as a result of their presence. That's hard to measure.
As for where the CEO was, that's an inconsistency that puts cracks in the trust of the statements of the investigation. Even if the CEO was on business for Lakewood, it's then concerning that the principal would state they have no knowledge of this. While I know that it certainly happens, the optics of their being police business at an elementary school can concern those parents of students who attend. |
