A not insignificant # of military families have made the decision to sell/rent vs return to their home based on the boundary review nonsense and general chaos ongoing in NoVA. This could account for 25% of the down enrollment. Who is buying? Younger families less concerned with boundary and political noise. Who is selling or renting and holding onto that 2.5% mortgage? Families with middle-high school aged children. |
LOL! They don't usually have much of a choice, PP. Stop making things up. |
+1 But, they may be a lot happier to move than usual. Frequently, in the past, they decided to stay or retire here because of the schools. Doubt that is happening now. |
You can call whatever you want, but it’s the truth. Families don’t like uncertainty and this school board is doling it out in droves. These families wanted to get ahead of the changes or at least have predictability in their school system. That meant private for some, moving out of county for others, and moving closer in to their desired school for others. God knows how many families just stay away altogether because of the boundary study, but my gut tells me anyone who cares about their kids’ schooling who learns about the boundary study will likely not come here. I expect the good schools to suffer because of this phenomenon. Mission accomplished, school board. |
Must be why home prices are so reasonable now, lol. |
Yes, it's required. We moved our kids to private school over the summer and FCPS required the completed form to unenroll them. They'll automatically unenroll students who don't show up after a certain number of days and FCPS can track those numbers too. Their claim that numbers are down due to worries about immigration are baseless without any context. |
| There is no requirement to unenroll your child. It is a courtesy. |
| Have there been any updates from the BRAC meeting last night that showed them scenario 4 maps? |
They aren't really allowed to talk about anything publicly until FCPS staff releases the materials from the meeting. Not sure if they'll do that today or if they'll wait till Friday when the maps are released. |
Simple- they will release an email today with broken links!
Past behavior predicts future behavior! |
Email tonight confirms they will release the maps Friday evening. Before a holiday weekend. This is so amateurish and embarrassing for them. |
Bad news is always released friday evening. Bonus points if it preceeds a 3 day holiday weekend or summer break. |
If you really care about this stuff, you'll access the maps Friday evening. |
| Communities unhappy with prior scenarios will be looking to see if their feedback was incorporated - if these October meetings are last chance to provide feedback I bet they will be well attended. |

How can you make public boundary adjustments when you plan on opening a new HS next year that is not apart of these adjustments?
With this thinking they will issue these new boundaries and then turn around a month or two later and say nevermind here are more changes. |
