What does that have to do with where kids can be dropped off? |
There’s no MOU with Jackson Reed. GDS has an MOU with the BZA because the land it built on was not zoned for a school. Jackson Reed is there by right as opposed to GDS which is not. |
Thanks, I appreciate it a lot. They really, because they were under so much pressure from the ANC, threw some GDS parents under the bus. They could have said two things that are true -- 1) GDS has done nothing other than push families hard to use public transport, the bus, or carpool but (2) the truth is that they also understand that some families have to drive and that the map is accurate and parents are following the mpa, which they have every right to do. |
Here's a link to the Comprehensive Travel Review that GDS submitted to DDOT and the BZA with its promises about how it would handle pickup-dropoff. https://app.dcoz.dc.gov/Exhibits/2010/BZA/19599/Exhibit31.pdf
On page 56 it goes into detail about how pickup-dropoff will take place on campus and to leave no doubt says e. Under no circumstances will drop-off/pick-up be permitted on public streets. f. All parents who must leave their vehicle to drop-off/pick up students during regular drop-off/pick-up times, must park in a designated, on-campus parking space. Parents using the drop-off/pick-up lanes must remain in their vehicles and will drop-off/pick-up their student(s) when they stop in front of the school Why didn't the HoS tell parents that that's the promise GDS made?

If parents have an exemption from carpooling they can drop off on campus without problem. You and other posters are saying the quiet part out loud. Many GDS parents do the right thing. GDS knows many think doing the right thing is for saps and maintains a separate system for them to cheat.

Oh you do not know DC. They can do it but the ANC can not |
Umm, just to state the obvious, neither GDS nor the ANC, nor DC can tell people that they cannot drop off or pick up on any public street. Just step back and think about that. It is ludicrous on its face. |
DCPS schools are essentially exempt from zoning, so the BZA and ANCs can't pull this kind of crap with them. |
Thanks, Jon. At least everyone now knows that you did not read your own agreement before attacking GDS and all of its families. |
