Trump is also weighing a seizure of Iran's critical oil depot on Kharg Island — a move that would require U.S. boots on the ground — if tankers remain bottled up in the Persian Gulf, U.S. officials say.

There was some talk online from a special forces vet saying "boots on the ground" has a loophole. So I looked it up.

There is precedent from Trump's favorite ex-President to claim otherwise. Which is why the Kurdish option was on the table.

As for taking Kharg Island, it would involve HAHO freefall jumps.

A HAHO jump, or High Altitude High Opening jump, involves parachutists exiting an aircraft at high altitudes (typically around 15,000 to 35,000 feet) and deploying their parachutes shortly after exiting. This technique allows for long-distance gliding towards a target while minimizing noise and detection, making it ideal for covert military operations.

Obama: Deploying Special Forces To Syria Is Not 'Boots On The Ground'
https://www.huffpost.com/entry/barack-obama-syria_n_563817fee4b00a4d2e0bad54

President Barack Obama said on Monday the planned deployment of dozens of U.S. special forces to Syria to advise opposition forces fighting Islamic State did not break his promise not to put "boots on the ground" in the Syrian conflict.

"Keep in mind that we have run special ops already and really this is just an extension of what we are continuing to do," Obama said in an interview on "NBC Nightly News" in his first public comments on the deployment since it was announced on Friday.

"We are not putting U.S. troops on the front lines fighting firefights with ISIL," Obama said, using another acronym for the Islamic State militant group. "I have been consistent throughout that we are not going to be fighting like we did in Iraq with battalions and occupations. That doesn't solve the problem."

Great so now you’ve put 100 or so lightly armed SF soldiers with no armor or air defense on an island 15 miles off the coast of Iran. How are you planning to supply them? How are you to protect them from the drones, rockets and artillery the Iranians can easily rain down on them?

Kharg Island is the economic heart of Iran. The 2500 Marines headed to the area will first be used as a threat to take over Kharg. If that doesn’t work they’ll deploy and take it. Iran can’t afford to lob drones and misses at their economic heart.

Right. Just like they would never attack the gulf states or close the strait. You guys have been wrong about Irans moves at every point.

Ehhhh, this would re-define "shooting fish in a barrel". It'd be a disaster for those unfortunate Marines as well as Trump.

Tell that to Germany during ww2. The reason oil prices are not $200 a barrel is because the Israeli, US and Iranians are not hitting oil facilities. Taking out Iran’s oil facilities would be the stupidest thing you could do. The Iranians have already said they will do the same to Saudi and other gulf countries. The Iranians have demonstrated they have the capabilities.

Right now the world markets are 7-9 million barrels a day down. Why on earth would you want to remove another 10-14 millions barrels a day for 3-5 years?

What the f is wrong with you?

This is over. It is time to pay reparations and leave the Middle East. The US can transfer money used to prop up Israel and some of the savings from shutting down US bases in the gulf to pay the reparations. Of course Israel will have to pay reparations on their own.

And? If it’s controlled by the US they no longer have an economic interest in preserving it

You really need to do your own research. You can't rely on this Whitehouse to tell you the truth anymore.

Democrats will cave like last time, after their performative protest that hurt working class Americans.

The Republicans already have something that needs to be passed. Meanwhile ICE is already funded and working.

This performative Presidency is currently hurting working class Americans with gas prices. You may as well just look forward to 2032. The world is now just running out the clock on Trump's failed Presidency, then the country will need Democrats to fix his mess in 2028.

they better look longer than 2032 because 4 years is not enough time to fix this mess. it is easy to destroy things, a lot hard to build and trust/confidence with allies is not something that will come over night.

I'm saying that 2028 is out of reach for Republicans. In 2032, the country will still be struggling because of all of Trump's damage still needing repair, but by then the Republicans will come along and say it's the Democrats fault. The same thing that happened in 2024.

Rubio wins in 2028.

wait, you think anyone with the taint of this administration has a chance of future political viability? really?

I guess they are counting on massive amounts of AIPAC money...

AIPac is not going to support the losers of this war with Iran.

Yes that is 3 million barrels a day being infused in to the world oil market.

Great, lets put Barron on the front lines and see how much sabre rattling he does.

Why Barron? Why not older kids who are allegedly benefiting directly from their privilege. Barron isn't personally involved.
