| Why do us women spend a lot of money, time and energy into looking our best? Why is it so important to us? |
| Because it's important to society. |
|
It's not important to me. But I was never pretty. I've even had homeless people call me ugly. So I guess I grew up with the mindset that the competition or game was for other girls/women, and not for me. I have never been qualified to compete.
Even when I do everything I know how to do to look pretty, I still look ugly. |
|
Positive attention. When you get it for just "being pretty," it's hard to see it disappear as you get older and more haggard looking.
Some might even say that it's just positive attention from men, but really, it's all positive attention. |
| C'mon, because humans are social animals, and a woman's beauty is what society values most about her. Not hard to understand. However unfortunate, the preoccupation with beauty is completely rational. |
| Because it's ingrained in us from a very young age that a woman's worth is directly tied to her beauty, and that concept is reinforced ad nauseam throughout our entire lives? |
| I feel better about myself when I look beautiful. |
Are you male or female? Either way, this is an awful statement to make. |
|
Because people treat you better, and are nicer to you, when you're pretty.
It's pretty simple. |
But...why? Why is our most important job to be beautiful? I feel so bad noticing sometimes. I know a very accomplished ph.d in economics who is the primary breadwinner in her family, has a very handsome husband and 2 adorable children. And she pulls it all off pretty flawlessly. She does not, however, do her hair and makeup in the morning. I know some of our neighbors who always make comments about how, "if only she wore makeup, she'd look soo beautiful!!" ...wtf? |
Do they really? How so? |
So do you never worry that your currency drops as you age? Do you share this value with your kids? |
I hear you, sister. I've never had a homeless person call me ugly, but I've seen other women get free things or a have a guy buy her drinks (or the bartender give her a drink) right in front of me. |
There is a good chance they weren't totally in there right mind so I hope you didn't take it to heart too much |
*their. My bad. |
