Teacher told the class today that they need to get a flu shot........ She give her liberal views on vaccine. She was saying it doesn't cause vaccine Autism.. Should she be allowed to say this? She lied. She thinks kids are not allowed in schools if they don't have their vaccine.

No, she should not be as she is not a doctor or nurse but many people have no boundaries and think they should dictate something that is personal choice.

She shouldn't be advising people on health care but it is perfectly fine to state facts. Vaccines do not cause autism. The science on that is settled fact.

She's a biology teacher so it would make sense that she believes in the science behind vaccines. She's also absolutely correct that there is no correlation between vaccines and autism. The only study which suggested as much was discredited when it was found out that the researcher falsified the data and was also being paid by the law firm who was planning to sue the vaccine manufacturers (see link below). All of the study's co-authors removed their names from the study.

Please do not perpetuate a false rumor about vaccines to your children. This supposed researcher has led to a disaster in public health. It's a disgrace! Although he lost his medical license he has tried to recreate the original study without success. He cannot obtain the same results. Gee, I wonder why?!

As for the teacher suggesting that the students must have vaccines to attend school she is correct for some vaccines. Students are required to show proof of vaccines to attend school (with a few exceptions). However, the flu vaccine is not required that I know of in any district in this area so, if she said this, then she was incorrect. I don't think I'd go as far as saying she lied, but rather she made a mistake. However, before you flip out and complain I would make sure that when she said that vaccines are required for school that she was actually talking about the flu vaccine. She may have been talking about the other vaccines which are required and your child simply misunderstood.

Maybe teacher has a health issue which makes her susceptible to the flu. A few years ago, while fighting cancer, I had to inflict a rule: no non-flu vaccine kids in the house.

Of course, one mom who "knows" better sent Larla over to play with DD...Larla came down with the flu the next day and almost killed me.

Oh yeah: vaccines do not cause autism and SAVE LIVES!

Wow. How was this child able to come to your house if you had that rule? Did the mom lie about Larla having gotten a flu shot?

NP. I think the lie may have been that unvaccinated students aren't allowed in school, if I'm reading OP correctly. It was my understanding that there were some exemptions that allowed vaccine refusal without impacting school attendance.

In general they aren't allowed to school. But the exemptions vary by state. In Maryland it's easy. In some others, it's not so easy.

We are talking about the flu shot here folks not mmr. Lots of people don't get the flu shot, which depending on the year and the strain of flu may not be very effective anyway. The teacher has no business espousing that kids get the shot much less saying it is mandatory. That decision belongs to their parents. This is a case of over-reach.

Vaccines may not directly cause "autism", but reactions such as high fevers, seizures and other medical issues. Our vaccines are relatively safe but nothing is 100%.
