Hispanics, why do we hate each other?

Yes that is true but I never mentioned if I was white, medium or black Hispanic. I just said I was from South America and I am olive complexion. My brother looks white though. I would say he definitely gets treated different than I do by other Hispanics. But the people I feel who have been bullies are all shades of Hispanic they just tend to be new immigrants as an adult and non South American as a kid.

So is your brother treated better by other Hispanics?

This is an interesting thread because I am not Hispanic but people often think I am. I feel people of my own race are often judging me for not looking xyz enough whereas I find Hispanics are generally friendlier to me because they think I am of their culture. I don't speak Spanish though. I did get horribly bullied by some Hispanics at a former job as they were very cliquey and judged me for not being from their city where I was working and being wealthier....I guess people differ based on their personalities.

Can everybody please stop using the transphobic and offensive term “Latino?” The correct term is Latinx.

TIA!

Yes, this. I lived in Uruguay previously and it was well known they disliked/teased Brazilians because Brazilians were perceived as being "darker".

I didn’t either until I read the book solito. Seems that the Central Americans are looked down upon, in a white tra$h sort of way. I had no idea that the central and South Americans from native descent are also discriminated against in Hispanic culture.

Colorism and internalized colonialism, in my experience. There’s also tribalism. My family is Puerto Rican and I understand through eavesdropping there’s a serious superiority complex based on nationality.

Just remember: the powers that be BENEFIT from keeping the plebes in conflict with one another. Stay woke.

Why don’t you speak Spanish? No pride in your country or culture? I’m Hispanic as well and learned Spanish. I have never been bullied by any other Latino. And I find the first thing other Latinos do is speak to me in Spanish. It’s a common bond. So you not knowing any Spanish sets you apart. Also, you sound elitist, like you have so much more. My family has doctors and lawyers and I went to a T10 university and have never felt anything close to what you mention.

You responded to "I was bullied because I didn't speak spanish."

Then continue to bully! Are you that stupid you don't see this? Then you say "Also, you sound elitist, like you have so much more." WHERE did you pull that from this sentence: "I was bullied because I didn't speak spanish." I'll wait...

Furthermore how can you bully a child that was not taught spanish? Something is wrong with you.

So you are asserting that anyone with ancestors from central or south america, even if they were born and raised in the US, HAS to learn Spanish or...what?

In an english speaking country!

Good question OP. I wasn't accepted by the other hispanics in my school and I was bulled because I didn't speak spanish just like other PPs. When I asked my mom why she looked at me like I had 3 heads and said why do you want to learn a language of poverty when you know english? We assimilated and that was that. She was so offended I asked her. Its never been brought up again. She also couldn't believe I was teased and bullied over it.

One thing most Latinos agree on, they all hate Argentina. Argentinians are lighter skinned and see themselves as more European than Latinos. There is a superiority air about the country.

Yes!!!

They are more european though. Even che guevara was half Irish. I can't speak for other countries but I know that South American countries in the vicinity don't hate Argentina.

They don't hate Argentina. They hate Argentinians! Brazilians love to travel to Argentina, but we don't like Argentinians. We think they think they're better than everybody. And then there's the soccer rivalry.

Some of these comments on this thread are highly ignorant and concerning. They literally prove the OP's point!

Hispanic is a made up category. Imagine trying to lump the anglophone world into one category- do Pakistanis and Canadians and Belizeans have in common?
