This! Very choppy snow already entering that turn and her aggression seemed to hook her up in the rut really hard which carried her into the gate. |
Of course its related. You think if she had stable knees and no pain she might have had better control and not clipped a gate on the first place? Because I’m guessing that’s exactly what happened. |
I was responding to someone saying she selfishly took a spot. She earned it & completed her training runs w/o issue. |
I heard they're worried about heavy snow on the men's downhill too. |
We can all speculate all we want. Are you a alpine racer, physio or orthopedist? |
Men’s DH took place yesterday. |

Folks, skiers are crazy adrenaline junkies. Breezy Johnson, who won gold in this event, competed without her parents present because her dad is recovering from a ski injury last month. Half the downhill skiers have some kind of injury like this in their past or, like Vonn, multiple such injuries.
I think it's crazy but I think downhill skiing is crazy. I don't personally find Vonn's decision to compete in these Olympics inspiring -- it seems dumb to me. But I doubt she cares about my opinion. I do think it's cool how long she has competed at such a high level, into her 40s. I always love to see people show longevity in these sports, I think it's impressive. But competing on a torn ACL and then crashing out almost immediately. Seems lame. Oh well. |
My uncle is a Physical Therapist in ski country who specializes in rehabbing skiing injuries. My uncle keeps adding staff and can't keep up with all the demand. |
It's a sport with a massive injury and crash rate. There were 3 crashes in the women's downhill and two of them (incl. Vonn) required them to stop so they could airlift the skiier out. And that's not really abnormal, especially when the conditions are a certain way. |
Skiiers trash their knees and snowboarders trash their shoulders. |
Sheet stupidity! I hope that she is all right with no permanent damage. |
Are you???? |

Watching the event from start to finish was like listening to every skier's MyChart records being read out loud - torn ACLs, broken bones, rebuilt shoulders, concussions, rehab, even for the "healthy" ones. I'm sticking to board games. |
