Montgomery County Public Schools (MCPS)
Mine too but I am down county. I always remind myself that it needs to be clear 45 mins away in Poolesville. And I have been to Calleva Farm enough times to know what some of those roads are like. |
This applies to schools since the decision has to apply county-wide, but child care should be able to make decisions based on local conditions. |

One would hope. It’s not snowing at all today. Our streets are plowed (cue someone yelling about how they’re lacking electricity in Damascus) |
It's not going to melt at all. It won't have to refreeze. |
I'm going to guess no school until Friday and there will a two hour delay then. |
| Well the county is down at least one plow after a dump truck with a plow attachment burst into flames in Clarksburg last night |
PP you replied to and I completely agree. |
| I'm not sure how we get our cars shoveled out at this point. The "snow" is rock hard. |
All this talk of school closures is making quite a few people here "rock hard" as well |
I think this is the goal. There is a lot of concern for the free and reduced lunch students. |
If you did it yesterday it should be easier. People are driving around today but I agree th snow is rock hard. My teen is out shoveling a few houses in the neighborhood and is discouraged by how long it’s taking him to clear today vs yesterday. But he has no school and all activities cancelled so at least this keeps him active. |
| The county says they expect to be done plowing Silver Spring, both major and residential streets, by 4pm today. What are folks in the other regions seeing? https://www.montgomerycountymd.gov/snow/snow-status.html |
I cleaned my driveway and sidewalk several times yesterday but that seems to have made it worse because now it's all ice stuck to the pavement from the evening, whereas the parts I hadn't touched are easier to lift since the snow underneath didn't freeze to the pavement. This doesn't effect the overall discussion, but wanted to point out that this may be a situation where not being proactive may have been better. My prediction for Wed is closed. I'm split on Thursday for delay or closed, but think Friday will be a delayed start. |
100%! My question is - what day will they allow child care providers that rent school space to make their own calls based on LOCAL conditions and staff availability? Or will they keep at Code Red all week and force all child care to remain closed until it’s safe for the entire county to go to school? I don’t understand why Code Orange (childcare can open) is tied to making admin staff in all school buildings report on-time. |
