Without the security guarantees of the US along with their defense funding, NATO may very well devolve into what happened to SEATO. Despite what the ECM, EC, and later the EU have pretended to be, there is no such thing as a "European." There is no loyalty among the European tribes. There are no natural allies except perhaps the Nordic countries. The only real other natural ally for any European country is England with America, because of shared history. That's the sad truth.

Christianity has nothing to do with anything here. But it is very true that some western countries are parasitical countries today - Italy, Spain, Portugal, Belgium, and Canada being the worst.

Are people confusing the EU and NATO? NATO is a defence treaty. The EU is an economic and political grouping.

Why would those countries want to leave the EU? Brexit clearly demonstrated the economic impact of withdrawal and it would be far worse for those countries as they are part of the monetary union. Poland sells 75% of its exports to the EU and 4% to the US. It is intermeshed in the supply chain of German manufacturers. Its citizens have freedom of movement and the right to work throughout the EU. What does the current US administration offer except a knife in the back?

Based upon your reply to PP, where does Russia, as you think it does, come into this equation? Russia is only interesting because the EU has always been too weak to bury it once and for all. Are you an Israeli shill? Or an Indian troll?

If NATO and geopolitics weren't in play, America would have kept its historical alliances with the UK and France and pivoted almost completely to Asia already. Unfortunately, there is no economic future in Europe except as an export market and tourist destination. Energy, technology, agriculture, natural resources, culture, and cuisine can (and is) all be currently imported from elsewhere.

In fact, because of Europe and Israel, it can be argued that America has not been able to keep an eye on and pursue a technological arms race with China, which will be a major source of discontent in the near future.

Ill be waiting for the future US president who gives the equivalent of JFK's "We choose to go to the Moon" speech. Only this time it'll be about catching up to China.

What is this Administration's obsession with promoting Russia about? I understand Trump's desires, ie: graft, but I don't understand the motivations of the staffers carrying his water.

The EU will be gone within 5 years. Poland does not need the EU. If Russia were to attack Poland, Polish troops would be marching victoriously through the streets of Moscow within a week.
