Récord enrollment at Bucknell

Elon enrollment down because they raised standards. Looks like those kids ended up at Bucknell. Not surprised. Bucknell is Elon’s little brother.

I mean, the name itself is hilarious: "Buck-nell"

Always doomed to be confused with Cornell and Grinnell:

"Bucknell? Isn't that in Nebraska or somewhere?" or "Bucknell? Oh yeah, I think I had a friend who went there to study hotel management."

It's an off-brand version of the most off-brand Ivy League school and the most off-brand liberal arts college. And preposterously, no one has seen a bison in Pennsylvania since the end of the last ice age.

So all hail Bucknell, the RC-Cola of selective colleges! If anyone has ever needed to experience the refreshing taste of Royal Crown, it's the brand obsessed people on this forum.

Bucknell is much more nationally known than Grinnell. I've never run into a Grinnell grad on Wall Street unless it's at the coffee shop where they work as a barista while focusing on activism or that novel they keep meaning to finish.

Grinnellers are at a disadvantage on The Street. When they show up for interviews with a bullhorn tucked under their arm, the uptight reactionary interviewers often see that as a red flag.

I worked in big law and run into Grinnell grads occasionally. Just did a case where lead lawyer on both sides went to Grinnell. Never worked with anyone from Bucknell. Guess they all are on “the street”.

Cleaning the street, on my experience. Quality is not there.

Bucknell was the most bland campus in the most depressing city we toured. I can’t figure out why anyone would want to attend school here. Lafayette was lovely and even Lehigh’s weirdly sloped campus was preferable. I truly don’t get it.

I actually just looked at its CDS and was surprised at how easy it is to get in. The average SAT is 1270? That's really low.

It’s a gateway to the Street!

What are you guys talking about? Ceteris paribus, if a school like this is getting more good applications, their acceptance rate goes down and their enrollment stays the same.

If they choose to expand their student body (or if they make a mistake and more of their admitted students accept than their model predicts), their enrollment goes up.

Expanding enrollment could possibly mean lower standards, but not always. Very prestigious schools (e.g., Princeton, which also increased enrollment) have so many highly qualified applicants that admitting more doesn't really change the profile.

Getting their yield wrong also doesn't say anything about standards. It's getting really, really difficult for schools to predict yield. So this kind of change doesn't mean that their yield necessarily increased.

I don't know anything about Bucknell, but much of the conversation on this board doesn't make much sense.

Lol. No Street pipeline for the cornfield Cornell, despite having Charlie Munger manage all their money. The truth is only extreme weirdos, Iowans, or folks looking for a full ride go to Grinnell.

Probably a lot of private schools kids where they don't just give out As.

Very true. It draws a private school crowd.

I am astounded at how many have 4.0+ at schools now - it was not like that when I went to high school…and it is not that the kids are now somehow miraculously smarter.

Seriously???? Lewisburg is a quintessential college town. It gets ranked as an idyllic town often. Any chance your kid was rejected and you are bitter? 🤔

Record enrollment at Bucknell? But of course…there are lax bros and there are lax bros. But only the Bucknell Bison have the kind of lax bros who dads will definitely get their teammates the hookup doing IG credit or equity derivative sales at top tier shops like Seaport, Jeffries and Susquehanna.

If the installed a draw bridge over the river to keep the trailer park people on the other side out I might consider Lewisburg a 6 out of 10. Right now it’s a 2.

It is low for a NE school. I believe the stats for the engineering school and business school admits is higher. The School of Arts and Sciences brings down the average.

PA is considerd mid-atlantic; not northeastern USA.
