Disagree. This is not about the crowded western schools--and that would not have helped the underperforming schools.

DP. I think if the western school had been built then there wouldn't have been enough widespread issues left for the board to try this whole "let's do a comprehensive review of the whole county" thing they've pushed on us. Now we're stuck with an every 5 year fight instead of "as needed" changes focused on actual problem areas and leaving everyone else alone.

Correct. I'm the first PP and this is what I meant.

Delusional. But no new high school is going to get built so you should think whatever you want.

They don't need to build one, it's already there. Just buy the KAA building and swap the sign out front.

Please no. Nike is a very well utilized and beloved park.

Does it have needed fields? Lab space? Enough parking? Classroom space? Gyms?

There is no need. FCPS is not going to get a new high school -- there is no need (enrollment is going down) to spend many, many millions of dollars in this way. They can redraw the boundaries to reduce crowding in certain schools and increase the student population in under-utilized schools.

And why would we build a new high school only four miles from Herndon HS when HHS has capacity?

because the Nike Park neighborhood is zoned all the way in Langley. Herndon doesn’t take those kids.

There won't be a new western high school. Too many schools have been or will be expanded.

But, yeah, if they ever did build one, they should pay what they need to pay to put it in the right place, which would be further south somewhere near the northern part of the Chantilly HS area, the western part of the Oakton HS area, or the northwestern part of the Fairfax HS area.

No need. There will be far fewer students in FCPS next year, because:

- RIFs/Fork/VERA

- ripple-effect from above

- self-deportations & moves to areas considered “safer” from ICE (ie California & New York).

What happened to the daily references to “equity warriors” and “School Board shills”? Did someone leave the room?

I love living rent free in that dense brain of yours.

So silly I don’t know where to begin. I can’t believe that this has spawned four pages of discussion.

They won't build a new school.

If they did build a new school, they wouldn't build it on park land.

If they did build it on park land, they wouldn't build it in Great Falls.

Put a fork in it.

DP. The comprehensive review isn't borne of a boatload of major problems. It's borne of Karl Frisch's political judgment that offloading boundary recommendations on a third party consultant could help politically ambitious School Board members avoid accountability. Wouldn't have mattered if there was a western HS; they'd still want to point to an outside consultant's recommendations for dealing with overcrowding in Tysons, at West Springfield HS, etc.

A bunch of random stuff like eliminating attendance islands that no one cared about got pulled into the study to make it look like a consultant was necessary, but it's ultimately all politics.

+1000.

Karl Frisch is a complete political slime-ball who cares not at all about your children.

He doesn’t even have children, nor does he want any. He’s only using his school board position as a stepping stone to higher political office.

You sound crazy.

“You sound crazy” most likely a post from Karl Frisch

So many people get bent out of shape by the long bus rides Great Falls students have to take either to Langley or Herndon (not Great Falls families, but the people who want to increase test scores at Herndon), why doesn’t Great Falls deserve a high school? Great Falls residents on average pay the highest taxes to VA and Fairfax County, yet Great Falls doesn’t have a middle or high school.

The bottom line is the money isn't there and Great Falls doesn't have enough kids to support a new high school or secondary school.

You can spin your wheels wishing that Langley had been built further west, but it wasn't, and it wasn't only renovated in 2018, but expanded.

Of course, Herndon was expanded as well, even more so than Langley, so it's fair to ask which under-enrolled high school kids in Great Falls should attend. But that question, too, appears to be off the table for the next five years.

Put two forks in it.

McLean needs to be renovated and expanded first. All of the 50s ramblers in the walkable, surrounding neighborhoods are being torn down and replaced with homes occupied by families with 2-3 kids.
