They are just finishing up a two year renovation of Crossfield. They're not going to tear it down and build a middle school, LOL!! |
| This whole thread is ridiculous. None of this is happening. |
Almost all high school fields are in use by the high school sports teams and marching band, Monday-Friday after school from 3PM until often 10:00PM or later, and most Saturdays, the majority of the school year except for a couple of winter months between Thanksgiving and the beginning of February. |
Yep. And anyome who thinks that the high school sports fields would be turned over to the community little leagues outside of school hours is deluding themselves or understands very little about high school sports. |
| FCPS does not need a new high school. The enrollment cliff is coming soon. |
| We are going to be talking about under enrollment and closing schools in 10-20 years. |
Exactly this. |
Hopefully they’ve learned from past experience. Closing both Jefferson and Fort Hunt turned out to be quite negative for the Alexandria part of Fairfax County. Keeping Marshall open even though they toyed with closing it in the early 90s turned out to be a very good decision. |
Our rec softball league uses various high school softball fields from the minute those teams lose in the tournament until the end of November? Other leagues - and their associated travel programs for that matter - do the same at other schools. |
How did it turn out to be a negative for that area? Are they over-enrolled in the other area schools? |
| The only available open space for building a giant high school are county owned park land and the neighbors will not go quietly into the night. No one prefers a high school next door over a park. |
Well, neither the Crossfield site nor the Nike site are good locations for a Western High School. What is going on with the Carson site now that KAA is closing? |
| The King Abdulla Academy (KAA) site is the ideal site - which is why it was the designated site until whatever back door deal happened to sell it to the Saudis. If a western high school was more than just window dressing in the CIP there would be serious attempts to figure out how to buy the site back now that the school is closing. |
It is just window dressing. During the last CIP discussion, Facilities basically said that nothing in the CIP more than five years out really means anything. The "new western HS" is the prime example. |
| We do not need another high school in FCPS. Enrollment is dropping, not increasing. |
