I understand that - but I'm saying, it's not among the recommended vaccines in 2025. Those of us who are vaccinating our kids on time aren't getting offered a smallpox vax. MMR, TDAP, chicken pox, hep b, etc., but no smallpox.

It's a beautiful state with nice weather. Yes, the government has gone mega-MAGA and people are less safe because of it, but that should help teach people that elections have consequences. Get off your couch and try to help a more sensible candidate get elected to office. My parents live in a relatively blue part of Florida and I went to visit for election day weekend and was shocked at how little campaign activitity was being conducted by the Democratic party.

There are unfortunately very few people still alive who remember what the world was like prior to modern day vaccines. My mom is 94 and remembers when every one had to stay inside during the summer because of polio. My late father had polio as a child and had a limp his entire life (and he was a lucky one). Mom started teaching in the 1950s and had a pregnant colleague who was exposed to a kid with german measles in the classroom and the poor teacher's child was born deaf (German measles exposure being a cause of birth defects). Those who forget history are doomed to repeat it.

I hope the Florida teachers go on strike over this because dropping vaccination requirements is a significant exposure risk for educators. But MAGA world won't care because they'd rather just use tax dollars to fund the homeschoolers and private religious schools.

Yes -- my mom is 96 and she LOOOOVES vaccines. She remembers her childhood without them, and losing friends or friends/family who had life long health impacts.

It doesn't have good weather though. It's too hot for most of the year. Has major hurricanes. Now it isn't cheap either. I don't understand the appeal.

My husband grew up in Florida and left for college and never went back except rarely. He hated the car culture etc. there’s a reason the saying is All the Nuts Roll Downhill to Florida.

I think we should have had a national service requirement for everyone so we all had to experience some hardship even if self imposed. Maybe that would have helped to build national community across race and class.

That was floated by democrats but not adopted. I can't believe these states think it's more important to virtue signal rather than protect themselves. This after complaining about virtue signaling. Unbelievable. The state with the largest amount of elderly and this is their proposition. And the elderly agree with it. Will never go down there again.
