The Florida anti vax thing is making me INSANE

Anonymous
Hoping that someone can relate. I'm a member of the palm beach county moms facebook group and the sentiment on there is CRAZY TOWN. So much disinformation, so much ignorance. As a former journalist it makes me so nuts that these people are unable to ascertain where to get their information and how to extrapolate data. I love this page but have to unfollow it bc the vibe is so ridiculous.
Anyone else struggling with this?

I think the only thing that will change these people’s minds is if there kids end up with polio or small pox. Even then they’ll find way to deflect blame.

This is my experience as well.
Until someone dies or has a severe impact from a preventable disease, they are fine spreading this.

I feel bad for their children that they are so out of touch and ignorant.

I'm not sure how lifesaving vaccines became the boogeyman to these folks. However, I do think that when people have too much time on their hands that they can go down dark conspiracy rabbit holes. This happened to a relative of mine. They don't go out much and don't work, so they have all day to stress out about conspiracies.

PS: My theory is that some of these people suffer from untreated anxiety and depression, and this is how it's coming out into the world.

Wait. They’re anti vax for babies and kids? Or just covid boosters and flu shots? Either way, I agree it’s crazy. My niece has a baby and I’m scared to ask about vaccinations. She lives in deep MAGA world.

No they are too far gone. They will go to the funeral and then show up on Fox News talking about how the influx of immigrants is responsible for their child dying.

Op, just unfollow the group. Why would you expend and mental energy on this? Life’s too short. If they want to risk their kids lives by avoiding vaccines, let them.

If you have tried to set someone you love straight with facts and they rebuff you, it's time to let it go. If a child is involved, and so at risk, stay involved and keep trying to share good information.

+1

Or it was the physician or hospital’s fault for not saving their child.

Of course they do.

Speaking of misinformation, the smallpox vaccine is no longer given as the disease has been eradicated.
