| ^^^ now in the Big 10 |
UWisconsin and Ohio State have good honors classes for math. Ohio has honors versions of even upper level physics courses. |

DC accepted to Cornell, UCLA, Michigan, GA Tech, UVA, VA Tech, and WL Princeton.
Ended up in a small cohort based honors program at Texas. Texas is T10 in his major. Loves it and was able to become instate for tuition. Has the best of all worlds small college experience at a large school with school spirit. We’ve been really happy and it was totally the right decision for him. Definitely cast a wide net and see what happens. Visit admitted students for her top3-5 acceptances and see what they like best. We found admitted students insightful. Good luck to your family |
That's so sad for you all. |
| Notre Dame |
Yikes this is so sad |
Plenty of kids with Ivy stats have no interest for similar reasons as your daughter.. My kid wanted flagship vibe all the way. He's living his best life happy as can be. |
Agree. |
Northwestern is ranked higher and harder to get into than some of the Ivies, fyi. I also think the vibe at Northwrstetn is different than most big 10 so it really depends what she likes about the big 10. Northwestern is way more geeky. |
Big 10 is not just a football conference. |
What an odd conclusion. You say your kid wants a Big 10 school due to XYZ, everyone tells you that Ivies don’t have XYZ, so you say you will now invent reasons 1,2,3 to figure out a reason to apply to an Ivy. Is this a $$$ thing I wonder and you just won’t say that? |
What are you talking about? The Big Ten is a football conference. That’s literally what it is. |
I went to Michigan and DC now at NU and agree NU is more Big 10 light relative to Michigan and the others-though Michigan about to go through a football slump after the last 3 years of glory. Oh well-maybe the new basketball coach will have success and there is still a ton of school spirit no matter what! |

In 1980, The Ivy League wanted to expand. It engaged in discussions with Northwestern--which is a founding member of the big ten Conference. Northwestern shut down the discussions due to travel distance for athletic teams.
Northwestern is building a new football stadium with a lower seating capacity than the old stadium. Consider USC, Michigan, UCLA, U Washington at Seattle, U Oregon, Northwestern, and Wisconsin all of which are now Big Ten Conference member schools. Notre Dame, Duke, and Vanderbilt are others to consider as well. |
Do you think that Michigan football games will have terrrible attendance? I doubt the actual record means all that much unless as PP says that like NU they become consistently uncompetitive and make their stadium smaller. |
