Ivy with school atmosphere closest to big school, like Big Ten

No country club friends here. Math or physics and my husband has a Masters in CS from GT. It is on her list. Family members at UF now but she isn't interested in that one.

But you also did exactly what I am asking about. She applied to an Ivy. So you aren't actually different than us.

She didn’t say she was? Calm down.

Not an Ivy, but Stanford is an academic school with competitive sports and a good campus culture. (Or at least, it was 30 years ago.)

One of my kids was accepted to Ivies but went to Michigan. Had the experience of a national football championship during their time there (ie this past year) and wouldn't trade the combination of academics and school spirit for anything.

Some of us who know better PREFER the Big 10 experience and culture to the Ivys.

Thanks, good idea. She liked Stanford when she toured.

Oh lord, please don't tell me that if your child were qualified for an Ivy you wouldn't explore them applying. We are a proud Big Ten family, hence why I said I understand her interest in those. I think the top ones provide the best of everything! I know very little about any of the Ivy schools and I thought this would be a place to get some useful input on subjective criteria.

Actually my oldest definitely had Ivy stats and toured Penn, Columbia and Princeton and none of them made his list - in the end he got into Northwestern, Georgetown and full BK at UMD. He decided to take the scholarship. Go Big Ten!

Lots of kids with "qualifications for an Ivy" aren't accepted. If she wants a Big10 school, don't bother applying to an Ivy that has nothing in common with what she's looking for. You are not compelled to apply just because you have great stats. Save your energy for where you want to go.

There is nothing quite like the atmosphere of Big Ten sports! I wouldn't have traded it for anything either.

Thanks. She hasn't toured any of the Ivies yet and she isn't sure which one she is interested in touring.

My child is qualified for an Ivy and I am not exploring her applying. There are countless numbers of us.

+1! What a weird post. Don’t make your daughter apply to an ivy when she isn’t interested. Not to mention she is highly unlikely to be admitted to an ivy, unless you count Cornell.

Would stick to Michigan for best combo of academics +B10 atmosphere, school spirit & bigtime football. I went to NU in the 90's. Got the RoseBowl season. Was awesome. Still overall felt like B10-lite compared to what i experienced visiting friends at Michigan, Illinois, Wisconsin. Maybe also look at Notre Dame? Usc?
