| A lot of this is just about being old. |
Sigh the nostalgia! My dc native mom tells me stories usually funny and some that were near murderous about her as a young Latin mom in dc and me her baby. I have to remember to be nicer when she tells me that dc is so different now than when she remembered it's familiar streets. |
Sure, an old timer from DC. If you grew up elsewhere, there’s a difference. Where you lived as a tween/teen likely imprint on you |
What does it mean to have a 220 SSN? |
I do! So? |
|
Meh. I moved here in 2001 and I call DCA "National". Maybe it's because I was in a long-term relationship w/ a local when I moved here, but it's just not the "tell" some think it is.

Georgetown had a porn theater in the 90s. That's so sketchy! |
Lol. I lived in 2 of these before they got gentrified. The kids who thought they were so special to be living in Potomac must be mad now that the kids zoned for Dufief ES got upgraded. I lived in the area before DMV was in use. I don't really understand what DCC means or how to properly apply it. Can't say Reagan for the airport either. They should have left it at just an aircraft carrier. But not moving back so guess it doesn't matter. |

Some of these are nonsense. I was born at
Georgetown Hospital in the early 70s and grew up in North Arlington and I now call the airport “Reagan” or “Reagan National.” However, it did take me a while to learn that what my Dad kept calling “Shirley Highway,” was 395. Case in point: you cannot use people’s uneven acclimation to vernacular as an arbitrary judge of nativism. |
| DC transplants loveee Georgetown cupcake |
| Most white people are transplants. Ditto for immigrants. |
220 is Maryland. https://www.usatrace.com/ssnchart/ |
I don't think anyone can "graduate" to native status? Weird question. I've been in DC a long time but I will ALWAYS be a native New Yorker. Always. I wouldn't view DC native status as an accomplishment though, they're #2 as the most insecure in comparison to NYC and love to pick a fight (Boston #1) no matter how much I kiss ass about how I love and choose the city. |
FWIW, your SSN tell depends on when the person was born. I was born in DC, but don’t have 557 or 8. These DCUM native threads always end up skewing so NW. |
So what is your son tell? What does nw have to do with it? |
