How old are the kids? Tell them the truth in language they can understand.

A woman that ex-president Trump engaged in a intimate relationship while married, maybe unbeknown to his wife. When he ran for office, he didn’t want this relationship or other information about his finances to be known. So he paid he money to keep it a secret for everybody. He also lied about it when it came to light. This was illegal, and now he has been charged with a crime and must go to trial.

Sometimes I say to my kids, "Not all of that answer is appropriate for kids or something you'd want to know, but what I can tell you now is that it has to do with sex." They usually respect that and appreciate that there are some things they're not ready for or don't want to know about. It makes me feel good because when they find out the whole thing, they'll know I wasn't lying or misleading them.

She is a woman who said that she was Donald Trump's girlfriend while he was married to Melania Trump. Donald Trump was afraid she would tell the news, and people wouldn't vote for him, so he paid her money to keep quiet. Paying that money was probably illegal, which is why he has been arrested.
