It doesn't bother me when I'm jogging around the neighborhood on my own. I like the dog. I have noticed kids in the neighborhood getting scared because she will chat with a neighbor and the dog wanders up to them and sometimes even barks. How does she not think that's a problem? It pissed me off when I'm walking my dog on leash (because it's the law!) because it upsets my dog so much. This young woman has such an entitled attitude and she also insists she has the kindest gentlest dog and so I guess she and the dog are special snowflakes.
Several of us have said something to her as nicely as possible and her attitude is pretty much fuck you I have actually tried to track when she takes her dog out so we just walk ours at different times, but she sometimes just lets him hang out outside unsupervised with no electric fence. Someone even provided her a copy of leash laws and she doesn't care. I am not looking to start a war with this woman and none of us want to gang up on her. There is no home owner's association. Is there any way to resolve these things amicably? I have even driven to other neighborhoods for walks, but there is no way we could do this every day. |
| Nope! Some people jus suck. |
| You can't reason with people like this. I had a neighbor who refused to leash his dogs, despite the fact that his dogs had attacked my (leashed) dog, knocking my DH over in the process and leaving an open wound on my dog. He said it was my dog's fault because my dog is weird. I called Animal Control. His dogs are leashed now. |
| Call the cops. She's one of "those". |
Cops usually say to call animal control and animal control takes forever. |
| I would call Animal Control (you don't have to give your name), because they can give her a warning and then the second time a fine if she persists with this (which it sounds like she will). Since you know her habits, you can let them know the details. In one year, I have had to call Animal Control three or four times – a downed bat near our back porch that looked ill, a drunk-acting raccoon in broad daylight and a dog running loose on a nearby two-lane highway in traffic. The most I have ever waited for them to show up is half an hour. |
| Why would you not call animal control? The dog attacked another dog. I would have called the very first time. Dogs are beast. |

Walk a calm non reactive dog past. When her dog misbehaves - runs into the street or whatever..let her see for herself that she has a problem.
Of course do this when no cars are coming. Goal is to wake her up not hurt the dog. It is not the dog's fault poor baby. I have come close to hitting unleashed dogs before when I've been driving 25mph (or below) down a residential street. They can dart out so quickly. It's *neglectful* for owners to allow this and is no less dangerous for the dog than it would be to leave a dog outside in the heat with no water or shade.. |
| Document the circumstances and call Animal Control. Since you know where she lives they can issue a warning. |

+1 I called Animal Control after our neighbor's unleashed dog bit my dog. She offered to pay the vet bill and I told her to keep her dog on a leash. Her dog is still off leash and it pisses me off. We don't go anywhere near them. |

Okay, I'm going to slightly disagree here.
I'm not disagreeing that this woman is obnoxious and should leash her dog. Of course she should. But you say the problem is "I have noticed kids in the neighborhood getting scared because she will chat with a neighbor and the dog wanders up to them and sometimes even barks." OP, that issue is not resolved by a leash. In fact, a leash may make that worse. The dog will still go up to kids, especially if it is on a long leash. And no leash will stop a dog from barking. Ever. |
Ridiculous. If the dog is secured on a proper leash it won't be near the kids. I'm afraid daily in my yard due to people like you , barely controlled and loose pitbulls. |
I walk my beagle on a six foot leash. |
