The Facts of Life

TV Land is starting to air episodes of the Facts of Life. I LOVED this show when i was a pre-teen/teen girl in the early 80s. What I didnt notice back then was how frumpy the characters dressed.
Natalie was my favorite character.

I think they were supposed to be wealthy boarding school girls, so that is what they were going for.

I loved that show too. Love how they were normal sized too.

that doesn't explain frumpy.

OP - I've watched a little and natalie and tootie were really short and didn't carry weight well. jo and blair exspecially looked decent. i think blair or the real life actress may have battled an eating disorder IIRC.

anywho i loved this show growing up and this show did not age well but i love it for that. (i'm the hart to hart poster

Blair did not have an eating disorder. You may be confusing her with Carol Seaver, played by Tracey Gold, who DID battle an eating disorder. Blair (the actress) is the one who became a Super Christian and advocating things like beating the shit out of your children and washing their mouths out with soap, and then wrote a book about it.

Nancy McKeon was my favorite, and to this day it makes me sad that all she's done since is Lifetime Movies.

Only Natalie was over weight. I liked that they looked like real teen girls without being super skinny, have nose or boob jobs.

If you watch the Fame tv series from the 80's you'll be blown away by the dancers bodies too. None of them are super skinny, and yet they're all totally ripped with muscles and can dance without getting out of breath.

First season when there were a lot of girls was the best.

Fat. They were fat.

Right along with Marilyn Monroe and a young Elizabeth Taylor.

Yes! Molly Ringwald!

PP is right though. The show doesn't age well at all. The story lines are horribly trite. Family Ties and Growing Pains are much more enduring.

Me too I completely loved it. I also didn't notice back then how fat they all were, which I think is a good thing (that I didn't notice, not good that they were fat)

The camera adds pounds. I bet they weren't as "fat" as everyone is saying.

Wow I must have watched a different show. I thought the show was unwatchable until Jo joined in season 2. Molly Ringwald's acting was God-awful in that first seasons. And I can't believe you think the storylines were trite. Did you miss the episode where Tootie was almost turned out by a pimp??

The actress who played Blair on two fairly-recent seasons of "Survivor" is not to be missed!
