I am both sad and angry about adoption attempts like the one Madonna is currently trying to secure. Breaks my heart that some families don't have the resources to raise their children, but rich celebrities are capable of doing it. So because they can provide a child a better life, families feel as if they should hand their children over.
How I wish Madonna would take some of her 500 million dollars and support a family so they could raise their children. Not take the children. I needed to vent. |

I"m so with you!!!
But honestly, if you see where this children grow up you just feel like rescuing them! Brazilian government tried to support such a program and it didn't work. The children were not attending school - private, paid by the sponsoring family - the families were selling the gifts, clothing, shoes, medicines that the supporting family gave to get money and buy drugs/alcohol/cigarettes... Unfortunately, poverty is not only lack of money... poverty brings ignorance and low moral values. |
| I'm not really sure what you are saying, OP. Celebrities are not entitled to adopt children because their money should go toward supporting poor families. But what about celebrities who desperately want to raise children? What about celebrities who already give money to charities? Does that entitle them to adopt children? And can celebrities adopt children if those children are given up by their parents, or if the parents don't deserve to raise them? Money doesn't always guarantee a good family life. |
Gee, I guess rich people all have good values?! |
Madonna has given millions to the orphans in Malawi. Have you actually read the work she is doing there? And aren't the parents of the daughter she wants to adopt not living? |

MYOB. |
Both children were in an orphange. So it breaks your heart she wants to raise these children as opposed to leave them there? David's father put the child there. Madonna spotted both David and Mercy in an orphanage in 2006. Madonna runs a charity, Raising Malawi, to help feed, educate and provide medical care for some of the country's more than 1 million orphans, half of whom have lost parents to AIDS. |
Some people say it's easy to be honest when you don't starve. |

My child is adopted from another country and Madonna's adoptions bother me greatly.
There are many orphans (true orphans with no living biological parent) residing in countries who have in place laws and procedures for international adoption and who regularly conduct adoptions with the US so why does she need to go to a country who does not have that system set up and cause such an uproar? To me it becomes to showy. I am not a huge fan of Angelina but I respect that she works within the adption laws and criteria setup in both the US and the other countries and does not try and get them to flout laws for her based on her celebrity status. |
Agree with this totally. It is Madonna's attempt to circumvent the rules that is troubling. |
| I don't agree with PPs on this. Madonna's willingness to adopt a black child is great. There are plenty available in this country but, for some reason, nobody wants them. |

From the BBC. . .what the father of Madonna's first adopted son David is quoted as saying. . .
"Yohane Banda had earlier told the AP news agency he would not have consented to the adoption if he had known it meant giving up his son. He initially thought Madonna would just "educate and take care of our son". "I was never told that adoption means that David will no longer be my son - if I was told this, I would not have allowed the adoption." |
| Of course the dad is going to say this publicly. What is he supposed to say, "Naw, I don't want him. Y'all can haul him away whenever y'all please"? |

Unfortunately, it's not that "easy" to give a country, village, or a family $$ (food, and resources) to raise children. There is a lot of red tape and politics.
Just look at the foreign aid now - Darfur is the most common hot spot - and even now the warlords are kicking out foreign aid workers, stealing supplies, hijacking food trucks, disrupting water, etc. Even with all the money that celebrities like Bono, Madonna, Angelie Jolie, etc. could potentially give, it really can't "fix" too much. It's sad, I agree. |
Why then was the child in an orphanage? |
