Celebrity adoptions break my heart

With this latest adoption, it seems to me that the father probably could have found out earlier that Mercy did not in fact die when her mother died. My guess is that once the publicity dies down, he won't be any more willing or able to take care of her than he was before.

There seems to be a lot of controversy that swirls around interracial adoptions when the child is black and the potential adopter is white. It has gotten some press in this country, that the black community doesn't seem to like it when their own are adopted by whites, for cultural reasons. Yet it seems to me like there are more black children up for adoption than there are black adoptive families. And I feel as if an adoptive family of whatever color would be preferable to being in an orphanage or the foster care system forever. With adoption, they are someone's child forever. With foster care, unfortunately, you're out on your own at age 18 and some kids end up homeless. Most 18-year-olds aren't ready to be parentless, and shouldn't have to be.

I don't think there are any right or wrong answers here. I just know that when pro-life protesters say that "every child is a wanted child," one look at the number of foster kids out there, and orphanages, would put that statement in question.

That is not everyone's opinion. While there are many white families that are not suitable to adopt children of different races (those families should really not adopt any child), there are just as many white familes that would be great. It is a myth that adopting black children is difficult. People say that b/c they might have some shame about going halfway around the world tp get an Asian or Russian child, when there are many African American kids here. But many foreign (white) families have been adopting balck US kids for years.
