exercise before retrieval and before FET?

Anonymous
I'm getting conflicting info about exercise during cycles.

Retrieval:
When did you stop exercising before an egg retrieval? When you start BCP? When you start stims? I've had docs say "no exercise," "no high impact exercise," and "exercise if it helps with stress, as long as you're feeling ok." I don't really care if I skip a few weeks of exercise--I just want to do what's best for the cycle. Thoughts?

FET:
Is there any problem with exercising before an FET? I usually stop everything besides yoga during the TWW. Thoughts?

I'm not an exercise maniac--I try to do about 1/2 hour 3-4 day per week, just to maintain a basic level of fitness. My sense is that being generally fit is a good thing....but that exercise can be harmful during certain parts of the various cycles. I just can't get clear answers on the best route.

Retrieval - RE said 'no vigorous exercise' after day 3 of stims.

Post-retrieval - no vigorous exercise until end of first period following retrieval. I walked, did light yoga (no twists, core-centric postures, or jump backs), and after 10 days used rower at gym. RE knows I have a vigorous yoga practice and lift weights, so was very specific.

FET - haven't gotten there yet due to egg quality

My nurse told me I could do very low impact exercise only once starting stims. Walking and swimming were her recommendations. She said continue this until beta. I am about to do my first FET, didn't get any info. I would imagine exercise would be fine up until transfer, then light activity for a couple of days. Those were my instructions given to me at my fresh transfer.

OP you are like me. Concerned about exercising and these are the same questions I asked. The truth is, as the retrieval day gets closer, I didn't want to exercise as I was so bloated with all those egg follicles. I have never been that bloated in my life.

Retrieval - I stopped after day 1 of stims. Just wasn't worth it to me.

FET - I worked out until the day before my FET. Spinning, running, whatever I felt like. I only walked after my FET and then did light elliptical starting about 2 weeks after (when I had already received a positive test).

I know it feels like a lot not to work out, but it's a very finite period of time and it's not worth the risks.

I was on a low dose of stims and on a protocol for quality not quantity. I worked out (no crunches or side twisting) right up until the retrieval. I stopped after the retrieval except for walking.

I would say if you are not exercise maniac give a break from it. Let your body rest it goes through so much during the cycle... just enjoy rest time... if you will get positive you feel so much fatigue during early pregnancy so enjoy it while you can. Good luck!

I just started my FET - definitely exercising up to transfer, but after will take it easy. It sucked doing almost nothing after my fresh cycle (which didn't work so I probably could have) but I just figure it's not worth it. I was told walking and swimming are ok - careful with yoga (no twists, ab work, etc.) basically no anything that can cause uterine contractions that could hinder implantation. So annoying - but better for FET than fresh - with fresh I was so uncomfortable I didn't want to work out, now I feel great so enjoying some light runs, gym workouts, etc. until transfer.

Retrieval - the week or so before... You are going to feel tired, bloated and like your ovaries are rocks. Take it easy. Walking is fine though...so maybe just take long leisurely walks?

FET - I got tired from the extra estrogen so I slowed it down a week or two before - then low impact until otherwise told by nurses. Again, walking, yoga is ok.

Go with your body and don't push too much -- the gym will be there when you are ready to return.
