Wow, I thought schools were always good. Now they have been downgraded. Is there a shift in demographics?

Why is demographics everyone's first thought?

What made you think they were good? Unless you are in Maget, they haven't been good in 30 years.

This and I went to Blair and it is a slum. The magnat kids prop up the test scores and college metrics but the kids never actually interact. Different teachers, class time and bells coupled with lunch, start and stop times and local kids can go 4 years through and never meet or have a magnat friend. It really is two schools that share an admin staff and Parking lot.

TP middle is decent but it is getting worse as the area regresses a bit recently as Langley park spreads west along university and south along caroll and piney branch. There is just so much poverty and immigrants in the area that sustainable performance is almost impossible. The handful of cute neighborhoods that draw a proactive and educated crowd will never be the majority around there and it will continue to be year-to-year depending on the exact mix of kids in any given class.

Blair is a slum. The principal is self-absorbed and narcissistic even had a permanent sub’s daughter nominate her for the Washington Post award. One of the PPs was right the school props itself up using the achievements of the magnet students. Those kids keep to themselves.

The black students at Blair didn’t meet state proficiency requirements in reading. The school is awful.

Ah, the dawn of another school year and everyone's favorite troll is back. The bolded part is the giveaway that this person has never actually been to Blair.

I am not sure what this means. (Plus -- hi, Blair troll! Is the Blair principal's Twitter account no longer keeping you busy?)

However, the overall pass rates at Blair for 11th grade are 93.9 (algebra) 92.7 (biology), 93.3 (English), and 81.7 (government), compared to the pass rates for black students at Blair for 11th grade of 89.4 (algebra), 87.0 (biology), 88.1 (English), and 76.5 (government). So:

1. the vast majority of black students in 11th grade did pass
2. the overall pass rates are very similar to the pass rates for black students

(If you're interested, you can look up the pass rates for 12th grade yourself, here: http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/04757.pdf)

Since there's also a RM troll, I'll type out the pass rates for overall and black students for 11th grade at Richard Montgomery: >95.0, >95.0, >95.0, 89.0 and 94.2, 90.7, 92.9, 79.5.

http://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/departments/regulatoryaccountability/glance/currentyear/schools/04201.pdf

The pass rates for overall and black students for 11th grade at Churchill are >95.0, >95.0, >95.0, 90.5 (hey, basically the same as RM! how about that!) and 91.7, 70.4, 80.8, 69.6 (worse than Blair, worse than RM).

Which school dropped - Takoma Park Elementary School or Takoma Park Middle School?

TPES doesn't get ranked because it doesn't have 3rd grade. It looks like Piney Branch Elementary and Blair dropped. Who knows why, and I'm not sure it matters that much unless it turns out to be a trend.
