This is so true. I've sat next to some guys who were clearly obsessed with the gym. They were pretty to look at, but their shoulders and arms took up practically half my seat. Yet, somehow it's okay for them to only have to buy 1 seat and no one shames them about being squished sitting next to them. this happened to me a lot. It's annoying and I hate it - but I would never do what that woman did to any type of big person (obese or gym-obsessed) |

Blame the airlines.
Oh, and the horrible "I eat salad" woman is gonna love middle age and menopause. |
I feel like this under represents the Kane Show thread which was actually like 4 threads |
Y'all need to tell me what airlines and more info about how you fly, because I have never once seen anyone buff taking up any kind of space. It is not the "shoulders" that are generally the problem. A for effort, however. |
^^ PP here. I should tell you I am fat, BTW. Where these buff guys hanging out on your airplanes? |
Did you see the video? She is way past menopause |
That's what I was thinking. And both parties were completely wrong, airlines too. |
I fly a lot, and many of the flights I take are 80% full or less. Travel to non-warm destinations (Europe for example) in the fall and winter, or just about anywhere on a Saturday afternoon/evening. Saturday is the least busy day of the week for flying. |
Saturday? Why? I doubt that. |
Why who flies on a Saturday night? You're losing half the weekend. |
We now make it a point to take Saturday morning flights when we travel for vacation or go visit family on the West Coast. Friday night is a travel mess, very expensive, and very stressful. I'd rather get home from work and take a leisurely evening to finish packing, close up the house, and go to bed early for a 7am flight. It's especially great when going to California - you'll land at 11am, the marine layer will be burned off at LAX, abd have a full Saturday ahead of you. It's lovely. |
I end up flying Saturdays for at least 1/3 of my business trips. The conferences I attend (academia) typically run Thursday-Saturday. I fly out as soon as it finishes on Saturday to save on hotel costs (and to get home sooner to see my kids). Even big airports like LAX are pretty quiet then. Also if I'm flying to Asia, I'll fly out on Saturday. That means arriving Sunday afternoon (crossing the date line), so I have a bit of time to recover before meetings on Monday. |
Maybe they would have if she'd approached it differently. |
I have luckily never had this situation but a friend of mine was stuck next to a grossly obese person once. He said he had to literally push the person’s fat out of his seat throughout the flight. I’m sorry but that is gross. |
