It's just like when the US invaded Libya and stole all the Libyan military equipment and gave it to ISIS.

Trump's only mistake is he thinks our government and generals are stupid. They arent stupid. They were never against terrorists. They were always our friends/concoctions going back to the early days of Taliban and Al Qaeda. We are in the business of ending wars and terrorism in that region of the world and Trump doesnt understand that yet.

The primary cog of our export engine is essentially war (and has been for the past 60 - 70 years), but this ^^^ yahoo is running around trying to convince anyone who will listen that we are in the business of ending wars?

Are you serious, sir or madam?

I made a typo. I meant we are NOT in the business of ending wars.
Trump thinks that its due to stupidity on the part of the Pentagon. It's not. It's intentional.

It's why the Pentagon has never done a real audit in over 25 years because "funding ISIS and Al Qaeda" dont quite exactly pass the line item test.

Gotcha, thanks for clarifying. Tonight, I’ve been the yahoo.

No you arent. No offense taken. The real yahoos are the ones in the new Syrian government now and our government.

Washington is now ready to help Al Qaeda's renamed spin off HTS soften their brand and make a soft relaunch to rehabilitate their image and calm down anxious Syrians.

It’s a slap in the face to the soldiers maimed in Iraq and to families of the soldiers who died.

They were slapped in the face long ago by being sent to a nonsense war. Another slap or two won’t hurt too bad.

I honestly cannot believe that Joe Biden gave Afghanistan to the Taliban and Syria to Al Qaeda.

So much blood and treasure over what?

looking back on the Arab Spring, what mistakes were made by the US? Should Obama have stayed completely out of it, or should we have weighed in more decisively against Assad then?

My personal feeling is that Americans have an overly naive view about “democracy” (or maybe they are just liars). Even now you hear American commentators say that they hope the Syrians can become a democratic state. That just seems like a naive wish.

I really don’t understand the hard-on Americans have for democracy in places that have no appetite for it.

Ain’t that the truth.

Trump is the one who made the deal to give Afghanistan to the Taliban. And "we" didn't give shit to Al Qaeda. We are still with the Kurds, controlling the eastern half of Syria and are taking over bases abandoned by the fleeing Russians.

If you have a problem with cozying up to Al Qaeda, take your complaints to the Turks.

It makes me wonder How legitimate democracies evolved in other nations subject to intense intervention like Korea and Japan.

I guess with Afghanistan he was lumbered with bad decisions made by his predecessors and decided to pull the plug on a hopeless situation, although rather ungracefully. A lot of people made good money on it so it was worth it for some. Syria is still a work in progress so it’s too early to come to conclusions there. I think that’s probably part of a larger project that’s been ongoing since the 90s or earlier.

Korea and Japan, like Germany, are occupied countries, not actual democracies. They have a system imposed upon them, not one they chose.

Work in progress?
I would call all middle eastern countries a work in progress, including Israel.
Right now the Syrian villages that are in the buffer zone have had their water and electricity cut off by Israel.
Perhaps they are supposed to volunteer to be homeless somewhere in Syria so that Netanyahu can give their houses to Israelis

Noone imposed democracy on Korea.
America left Korea with a military dictatorship that was friendly with America
America did this in a LOT of countries.
Koreans overthrew the military dictatorship but remained allied to the USA.

If Israelis are living there, then it's not really a buffer zone.

Well you have to have a buffer zone for the buffer zone. Can’t have Israeli settlers getting attacked when they steal land.

This came out on Russian language Telegram:

Russia is publishing some details about the asylum that Bashar Assad and his family received from Russian President Vladimir Putin:

1. Bashar is strictly prohibited from engaging in politics or leaving Moscow without permission from the competent authorities in Russia.

2. Asma Assad, Bashar's wife, requested a divorce through a Russian court, and requested permission to leave Moscow for London, and the request to leave is still under review.

3. Assad is prohibited from using his money and assets, until a decision is made by those concerned in Russia.

4. Maher Assad, Bashar's brother, has not yet received asylum, and his application is still being reviewed, and he is currently under house arrest with his family.

Asma divorcing is no surprise. I always thought it was a sham marriage. He’s gay.
