Getting away from the obsessed antisemites clouding the thread … looking back on the Arab Spring, what mistakes were made by the US? Should Obama have stayed completely out of it, or should we have weighed in more decisively against Assad then? My personal feeling is that Americans have an overly naive view about “democracy” (or maybe they are just liars). Even now you hear American commentators say that they hope the Syrians can become a democratic state. That just seems like a naive wish.
I really don’t understand the hard-on Americans have for democracy in places that have no appetite for it.
Ain’t that the truth.
It makes me wonder How legitimate democracies evolved in other nations subject to intense intervention like Korea and Japan.
Korea and Japan, like Germany, are occupied countries, not actual democracies. They have a system imposed upon them, not one they chose.
Noone imposed democracy on Korea. America left Korea with a military dictatorship that was friendly with America America did this in a LOT of countries. Koreans overthrew the military dictatorship but remained allied to the USA.
