Anyone following this Candice Miller/Mama & Tata nightmare?

In the "cool" crowd, there's often a hierarchy/different groups. The actual "cool" people- who are often hip or interesting or bring something to the table, hence being invited to events for free or for entertainment/hip points. The medium level- i.e. somewhat cool and well liked, but also capable of purchasing their own dinner/ticket to the event (most people probably fall here). And then the final group which is dorky rich people who are willing to splash out any amount of cash to be included- this is a surprisingly large group as well. Candice strikes me as firmly being in the third category.

And I suspect she knew her husband was going broke, but she also knew that the only reason she was ever invited to any Tracy Anderson event was only because she was splashing out thousands per month, not because she was actually accepted in the Tracy/Gwyneth Paltrow/Madonna NYC in group. And she knew if her husband stop paying out, there was NO WAY she would get to enter the cool circle.

She does not give off uncool vibes to me, at all. She gives off superficial rich girl vibes. She grew up rich. But not trump rich or hedge fund money rich. She was just normal UES with a Hamptons house rich. Went to the “right” schools, not super smart but well connected and pleasant. She married Brandon and tried to social climb with celebrities and billionaires and just, couldn’t? I mean she did successfully for 7ish years, but clearly they were living beyond their means and she didn’t want to give up her stuff and lifestyle and place in the pecking order which I get. Most of her true peer group from HS, the rich UES private school kids live lives similar to or less fancy than their parents. She seemed ok with that before social media - she was a learning specialist at one of the UES privates, worked, was obviously a rich girl but not a “celebrity” rich girl. I think she got so twisted in her weird bubble, trying to create a clothing line, posting on insta all the insane things, it warped their families priorities. I have a friend who knew her in undergrad and she was in the group of kids who were privilege and had endless college level money and access to parents credit cards, above the UMC kids from gross pointe, hung with the real rich kids. But that was back in the day when status was getting weekly manicures, wear citizens of humanity jeans and Ella moss tops, having a LV pouchette, and wearing jimmy Choos…. Not flying private, having 3k a month work outs and facials, two 9mm homes, paying for car service to the 60k per year per kid schools etc.

Is she a college graduate?

Yup, I just met a fourth generation Maidstone member who bemoaned what East Hampton has become. I mean, it’s hard to feel bad for him but I understood where he’s coming from.

This goes for the entire country. The Ivy League, the State Department, all disgusting.

NYC is full of these desperate strivers. They aren’t especially pretty, smart, or cultured, but they have lots of ambition that manifests itself in social climbing pawned off as class. They aren’t worth all the ink, even when they drive their spouses to suicide.

What in the world are you talking about? What does the State Dept have to do with any of this??

I know someone who knows the family. Apparently the burial was yesterday and they are going to the Shiva in the Hamptons today. Exact details not confirmed as to what happened though. The family is trying to keep it as quiet as possible.

There can be a burial without an actual body. Shiva too.

The low caliber “public servants” appointed as ambassadors just as another way to promote themselves. Public service in America is dead. It is all tackiness and self promotion.

I always thought he would leave her. I see her reinventing herself and becoming this namaste person who is still rich but now will be the new calling card for personal enlightenment

Will be very interesting to see what her next move will be and who will stick by her.

What healthy person would stick by her/this?

Debt might be following her too, who knows. I think she’ll eventually land some twice-divorced older man, but I bet his kids won’t like it!

Women supporting women, this is so much fun to see! You have no idea what she is truly inside or if she was actually lied to by her husband, do you? Financial infidelity is a real thing and I have personally experienced it with my partner, it's amazing how blind we can be when we love someone, I know that firsthand. I give her some grace and time for the truth to come out and sadly, my bet is she will have a book/movie deal in the not too distant future as a means of surviving. Seen this story before, she will survive but not without damage in the "trust" department. That's hard to get back, and from my personal experience, all but impossible to escape the emotional damage.

Then you are just as irresponsible as your partner, and she is just as irresponsible as her husband. I'm so tired of adult women acting like children. Take control and know about your family's finances. When you're a grown ass woman, there's no excuse for such deliberate ignorance.

💯 she’s an intelligent woman. I am sure she knew but perhaps did not know the extent of the debt. Neither of them had any idea how to budget. After they sold their place they could have easily stayed in the city in a 3 bed that rents 25k still expensive but about half the cost!

I don't mean to sound snarky, but who can tell if she or her husband were actually intelligent? The videos I've seen show her to be appearance -obsessed and vapid. He was in way over his head after inheriting his father's business. They both seem like idiots.

Keep in mind, it's really hard to amass extreme wealth in a single generation and at a relatively young age. It's impossible to make that much money and also spend like an Arab with a fortune from oil money.

And what did you do to entitle you to this super reduced rent?

The NYT article said the rent was $47,000 a month. I’ve not read other posts so don’t know if this has been shared already.

Their prior apartment was foreclosed upon and they’ve been living in one under her husbands company’s name and all the furniture was rented. Word is that on her recent trip to Europe her cards were declined and she couldn’t pay for her hotel in Spain yet went on to France. There is no way. No way. She didn’t know how bad it was. She will have to declare bankruptcy and there will be absolutely nothing left.

Seems fitting.

It also makes me wonder if he had a life insurance policy?
