Backpack purchased. What goes in it for first day of school?

Kid is starting K. Just lunch and a couple pencils?

Didn't you get a list of school supplies and classroom supplies for your child? You should send them with all that stuff. Plus a labeled change of clothes. And yes, lunch and water bottle.

K teacher: just lunch, if you got/get a tag from the school indicating how your child gets home put an extra copy in a pocket or something, you can put supplies in if you have them but it may be easier for all of you if you take them to Back to School Night. The teacher will already have supplies (communal supplies in k) ready for the first day so she's not going to be without if you don't send them on day 1.
Good luck!
I was a first time k parent last year. Despite years of teaching k, I was nervous too!

OP here. Been busy and forgot about the supply list. Thanks for the reminder.

OP, you are truly clueless.

I had a friend who had no idea about school supplies at all. Fortunately, we talked before she sent her twins to school with their fuzzy My Little Pony pencils and folders. She truly couldn't believe she was expected to buy supplies. It's like she had never been in a Target at any time over any summer or ever saw a Staples commercial.

Ha. Sounds like OP may have just emerged from a cave for the summer. Or, was "busy" summering in the Hamptons and didn't bother preparing for school.

Yes, agree I'm clueless. I'm on Amazon ordering now so hopefully I'm getting my act together.

Not the OP but am kind off wondering the same thing...

The Kindergarten supply list at our lists only three items and then specifies that they will be for the classroom and not to label them. It then has a list of voluntary donation items. But my understanding is that we are to drop everything off at Friday's orientation.

I was planning on sending DS to school with a backpack with his lunchbox inside (both labled of course) and a name tag pinned to his shirt and that's it. I hadn't thought about a change of clothing or water bottle....now I'm uncertain???

Change of clothes never hurts. The water bottle is a school by school or even teacher by teacher preference. Do what you are comfortable with and then ask at the Open House or Back to School Night if you are still unsure.

Definitely tuck in a pack of cigarettes and some cash.

We live in a W school district so it might be a little different down county but my child's backpack will look something like this:

You are mean. I am not the OP but I need help too with this. My list had 3 items and I am not sure what else I need!
