Dr. Michael Doran found dead in his apartment this morning
Cause of death is unknown at this point. Horrible, horrible news. My brother went to Wootton when he was new there and thought he was fantastic. RIP. |
| It is very sad. The entire community is shocked. The students are a mess. |
| Odd that the article makes no mention of his age. How old was he? |
| This is terrible. First the two bright students and the fatal car crash, and now the principal. Heartbreaking. |
| Every death is heartbreaking, but no, the drinking kids weren't so bright at all. Let's not go there. |
I was wondering this also. Tragic no matter what, but I'd be interested to know how old he was. |
The article says he's been working in education for "more than 40 years," so if my math is right he would be about mid-60s, maybe a little older if he didn't start in it right away. |
| Post article says he was 64. |
| He was a very nice man. I wonder who MCPS will place there--do you think there may be an interim principal? Tough shoes to fill. Very sad. |
| Early 60s, but in terrific shape. Very fit. Still played soccer. |
| I just read that he hadn't felt well the day before and had a doctors appointment. |
| I am a pp in this thread and thinking about it I hope his replacement is part of the wootton community already and knows it well--maybe there is a good assistant principal there who could take the helm? I think Dr. Doran would want that. |
| The timing is chilling. Right when the investigation of his star football player is about to be wrapped-up. Was he depressed about that whole nightmare? |
| No, he had been ill. I'm a teacher there and we are all extremely heart broken. PP- It is a very cruel time to imply that such a selfless man would do anything to cause grief in his community. |
