I have an acquaintance who was found dead after "not feeling well." It's so hard to know when feeling "off" is a sign of something serious.

Only his family would most likely know how stressed he had been after the death of the two boys. Teens driving drunk is one thing, and that happens every year. What you don't expect is for it to happen under the watchful eye of a trusted parent you thought you knew, and expected better. Under the circumstances of what happened, I'd feel like I got a knife in my back.

Same thing happened to Moses Malone last week. there were no warning signs, truly silent killer with women being more at risk for this than men.

You can be a triathlete and still be taken down by heart disease.

You do understand that extreme stress is a classic ingredient in fatal heart attacks? And no, Dr. Doran was not an extreme athlete, but he was a relatively young man in excellent physical health.

A relatively young man? Relative to what? He was 64 years old. Guess what is the second leading cause of death among white men aged 55-64? Yes, you're right! It's heart disease.

Oh good grief.

Don't people normally live into their 80's, barring an accident or disease?

So he was old enough to die?

You're an asshole.

No. I believe the average life expectancy in the US is approximately in the early 70s. It varies according to year of birth and sex.

Agree. By all accounts he was physically very fit and healthy. Still played soccer on a regular basis. My opinion is he was literally crushed by the back-stabbing parents who lawyered-up and would not let their party kids speak with Didone about what happened. I just can't fathom the way he really cared about those kids more than the parents. Especially at a school like that with every resource in the universe. I feel sorry about the ethical void those kids got from their parents. They are our future lawyers, doctors and business owners. With any luck, they'll get some perspective while they're away at college, and acknowledge how corrupt most of their parents are, and change their ways. Heck, one of them can write a book about life in the fast lane when you're rich, but grossly neglected by your own parents. "Contributing to the delinquency of a minor" perhaps, however legal it was.

Not getting enough attention now that the thread in Teens and Tweens forum has died?

Wrong. Life expectancy is late 70's early 80's and that includes infant mortality. Take away infant mortality, which one can obviously do when speaking about an adult, and average life expectancy in the US today is mid to late 80's.

The average age for a man to have a heart attack is 66.

If you think Dr. D. was an average man in any way, you didn't know him.

Heart defect does not mean heart attack.

Literally crushed by parents? I don't think you know what literally means.

Can we let the man rest in peace and pray for comfort to his family? The cause of death is a private matter.

The man worked in a noble profession to make our community a better place. His legacy is the lives of the students who learned in his high school and went forward and will continue to go forward to do amazing things in this world. Not everyone lives to enjoy retirement but we all should be thankful for every breath God gives us and not spend our days gossiping about why a life was cut short.
