S/O What is it about disposing of dog poop in your trash can that upsets you

Anonymous
Just a specific question based off the stupid dog hating thread.

I am a dog owner who picks up after my dogs and who does not put the bags in your trash can because I've seen enough complaints about people who hate it but I genuinely don't understand WHY people hate it. Its your outdoor trash can. I never even look in my outdoor trashcan, certainly not closely enough to have noticed a rogue dog poop bag.

Genuinely curious because I feel like the people who DO do this are actually trying to be conscientious dog owners but people seem to get SUPER bent about it.

The outdoor trash bin goes near my house. I don't want to smell it when I open the bin. If on the off chance I need to get something out of the bin, I don't want to have to sort through your dog's shit. It's also still considered personal property.

Because I don't want my trash bin smelling like dog shit. Carry the baggie home, and put it in your own bin.

As a dog owner who picks up and double-bags the dog poop before putting it in my trash can, I can say that over time the poop makes your trashcan smell even when double bagged. I wouldn't toss my poop bags in someone else's trash cans for that reason.

Because I do not want MY trash can to smell like dog poop. Do you want me to come over and crap in your toilet?

Because on the few occasions someone has done it to us, I can always smell it, especially in hot weather. One time someone put a bag of poop into our bin right after it had been emptied by the trash collector, and my husband dropped something heavy into the can without realizing their was a poop bag inside. The bag broke, dog poop got all over the bottom of the can, and we had to wash it out because it stank to high heaven.

Not quite sure how that's relevant, helpful, or comparable but if you came over to my house and were my guest I would let you poop in my toilet. You can't help it if you have to go when you're there.

Because it stinks! I mean.... duh. Who wants to open their trash can and smell dog shit?

I guess the reason I'm confused is that I just don't spend that much time next to my outdoor trash can and it always smells like SOMETHING bad. It holds trash. Perhaps poop just is equal to me on the bad smells of rotting food/whatever else is in there.

Like I just envision all these bitter people opening their trash cans and sniffing angrily to see if they detect poop in the myriad of other gross oders. Like for the probably 30 aggregate seconds a week I am close enough to smell it, I am just assuming it smells bad because its trash.

Clearly, other people don't feel the same way. Poop does not smell like other garbage.

Can you all just put a sign on your trash cans saying "no dog poop" and get over it? Just stop with these threads. I personally wouldn't care if someone used my trash can. It was free and is already stinky.

I put my own dog's poop bags in our own trash. First of all, it stinks. Secondly, the trash guys are sloppy and the poop bag occasionally winds up in the street in front of my house. Other times, the poop bag remains in the bottom of the trash can because they didn't shake it out. I'm pretty sure my neighbors would be upset if that happened to them and they didn't even own a dog.
