Upper hand in your relationship

I'm a 30 year old woman and I'm having a hard time finding a guy who will give me a real chance. I have been told that I'm very attractive, (I have a sexy demeanor) very thoughtful, and have been told by numerous guys that I would be a great mom. I'm a teacher, work hard, own my own house, and is great with kids. It seems the men around here are looking for "status" - a lawyer or dentist wife who comes from money. If I'm at a bar, or meet someone casually and I tell them I'm a teacher, I lose their attention. Is this just DC? I feel like they immediately put me in the "fuckable" category, but not someone they would date seriously. What are you guys looking for?

I'm also in education but my career garners a lot of respect from men - to the point that some are intimidated by it. I'm older than you as well, late 30s. I wonder what you project - do they think that you want to quit and SAHM and marry a breadwinner? Where are you meeting guys?

Maybe you should try online dating where they know from the getgo what your profession is.

Try some IT guys, especially with clearances. Many have spouses in similar jobs or turned SAHM's and make decent money.

The title of your post is so strange. Do you think highest paid profession has upper hand?

Stop hanging out at places that attract douchebags?

OP and 2254 are very strange/confusing.

I agree with 915. I'm a guy. I'm a teacher. There are guys out there who will respect the work you do.

what does the subject have to do with your post?

Fair or not, teachers have a reputation of working long hours for little pay. It would turn me off too.

I was expecting a completely different topic when I opened this thread.

Most of my kids' teachers are married. I really don't think being a teacher would be a turn-off - but if you're carrying a chip on your shoulder it might be. I didn't have any issues as a social worker, and we make less than teachers.

You orobsbly just haven't met the right guy - you're still young, and dating is hard. Are you only interested in people who make a lot of money? Maybe you wouldn't date a teacher? That would be ironic.

Very strange. I'm a man and I had no idea that men looked down at the status of teachers. Then again, I'm an IT Manager so maybe 22:54 was onto something.

As far as the bigger income having the upper hand...I don't think so. I make good money but DW (who is a partner her company) makes twice what I do. I don't think she'd say she has any upper hand. We're a family and a team and all decisions are joint.

My partner and I are both teachers. Have you considered dating within your profession?

Not OP. Why?

I'm a career nanny with a degree and a specialty in special needs children. It does change the tone of the conversation with some men. Those are not guys I'd like to be around any longer. Some are really quite rude about it and talk about getting a "real job." I used to own a business and made a lot of money then, but it was not at all fulfilling. I walked away because it was not the lifestyle I wanted. If a guy can't understand that, he isn't worth my time.

Amazing. Would you want this woman teaching your children? She's barely literate. No wonder she's turning guys off. I'd like to hear the rest of her story.
