What's a Good Late Night Snack?

Anonymous
Just woke up craving some neopolitan ice cream that's in the freezer staring me in the face every time I open the door.

Luckily I was able to resist and instead opted for 6 slices of honey roasted turkey (lunchmeat) and a couple servings of steamed broccoli in buttersauce.

I'm proud of myself this time but I don't know If I can exercise this amount of restraint should I need another midnight snack in the near future. I'm going shopping tomorrow to (hopefully) stock my fridge and freezer with some healthy late night snack options.

What are the best/healthiest items to eat late at night?

Huh. I would just eat 1/2 cup of the ice cream.

I just had a big bowl of blueberries and 1/2 an avocado.

Just go back to sleep.

That is an enormous back, and probably at least as many calories as a serving of the ice cream.

The healthiest thing to do is just not to eat late at night.

I have been making soups and then I can just ladle out a cup of leftover soup and eat it as a late night snack. Tasty and healthy.

The ice cream would have been a better snack. Have a half cup serving and be done with the craving.

Lol, I guess I should have clarified that they were the thin slices like this:

http://saraleefoodservice.com/K-12/Products/Commodities/ProductDetail.aspx?ProductID=2184

According to the chart in the link 6 slices = 105 calories.

And according to this link the paxk of broccolli = 100 calories:

So I ate 205 calories not too bad, right?

I'm gonna calculate how many calories I would have eaten with the bowl of ice cream next.

Apparently 1/2 cup of ice cream would have been 140 calories

who eats only a 1/2 cup of ice cream though? I would have most certainly had a cup or more which would have been 280+ calories.

Actually...

1/2 cup of premium ice cream is maybe 230 calories. Some ice cream might be lower.

Deli meat can be 1/2-1 oz per slice. So that could have been 90-180 calories for the turkey. The broccoli is about 50 cal/serving without the butter sauce. And you had a couple.

You might have ended up consuming more calories with your "healthier" shack.

Nothing is a good late night snack - is very unhealthy to eat at this time.

Take a sip of water, or milk if you have to and go back to sleep.
