| I was not sure in which forum to post. I am a struggling grad student. I make around 25k a year and a portion if school is covered by loans. I was the victim identity theft ( credit cards) so I do not qualify for a lot of student loans. I'm currently single and plan to be for some time. I have an older friend who is widowed, attractive, and wealthy. He has always been trying to date/sleep with me for a long time. This weekend he proposed we have a mutual arrangement, much like a sugar baby. He will handle tuition for my last 1.5 years and I will go to dinner, movies, and be intimate a few times a week. It's so enticing for a 25 year old. I love sex and my money problems will be taken care of. OTOH, I worry I'm disrespectful myself. WWYD? |
| Not. Touching. This. |
Why? |
| A few times a week? Why not just marry him? |
+1 |
| How does being a victim of credit card theft keep you from getting student loans? I realize it's a huge pain to get those things off your credit report, but it can be done. |

The going rate for this arrangement is actually much closer to $70K. You'd have to know whether it was okay for you to have any other relationships. What if you actually meet someone amazing?
I'd ask for tuition in advance and a monthly stipend. Well, actually, I'd never have done this -- but now that I am much older, I kind of say -- why the hell not? As long as you both understand the ground rules and agree to them... |
| I would be too concerned about lifelong regrets. You can struggle and in the end be proud of what you accomplished on your own whereas you may regret the arrangement you are considering and have to live with some degree of shame or embarrassment for the rest of your life. |
| I did this recently and have been regretting it. I don't suggest this. |
| This is essentially long term prostitution. If you are ok with looking back and knowing that's how you paid for your education, go for it! I don't think I would do it, but who knows, it wasn't a decision I had to make. |

OP here. I would turn it down flat if it were a stranger, but I've known his guys for years. We discussed that he will pay my tuition and I would get gifts, without me feeling like I actually getting cash in hand for our arrangement. It would be 1-2 times a week when he is in town ( travels 1-2 weeks a month).
This arrangement can end whenever I want it to. He has done this once before a couple years back. Honestly I've been struggling badly and I've had to put off school before to save money to pay. I don't want to do that again. To the pp - Have you been through identity theft? I had a family member take out CC in my name before I even had my own CC. I was just able to get a CC to build credit. Getting negative marks with no credit to start off is really bad. I do not qualify for financial aid or pell grants. The student loans want a co-signer but I have no one willing to co-sign. The ones I do have only cover half tuition, and I was able to obtain w.o a credit check. Trust me, I've exhausted all options for years. I know what I'm talking about. |
Serious question but how is this different than prostitution? |
Get government loans, not private ones. |

OP again for a little more background. My dad passed when I was younger, my mom is a dead beat mother who is bi-polar and never gave a damn. I was raised by my step-dad but he refuses to help me or my siblings out. He is only paying tuition for his bio daughter, though I've been raised by him since I was 6.
I live in NY which is so expensive. |
As the parent of a college freshmen I can tell you that you can only get a certain amount in gov loans. And they won't come anywhere near full tuition. |
