We are peers who met through mutual friends. Neither of us was wealthy when we met, but we have both worked hard in ensuing years and are wealthy now. There was no gold digging on either side; that's crucial if you want a stable, loving relationship that can go the distance.

We met in HYP grad school and got married. I came from a more well to do bachground than DH but he outearns me by a lot now.

This is it in a nutshell. No man wants to be married to an overweight old lady so being fit, young and attractive is really all you need. The flipside is that you may get tossed aside for the younger model when the time comes so either be prepared to tolerate the affairs or ready to spend old age alone (but with money unless you were stupid and signed a prenup).

It's easier to become a second wife. Just act like its 1955 and accept you have no other way to become successful. The competition is weaker, he's more gullible and a lot richer than in his 20s. By the time he's in his 40s and up, you're getting money in the bank, not betting on his potential future earning power. Even better if he had kids with the first wife early so they're in college when you come on the scene. Sales and PR careers get you around business executives. Avoid bars, go to more fundraisers.

Another upside to this is that you really don't want the kids wrecking your body. The key to keeping him is your age and youthful figure. Let somebody else ruin their body bearing his children so you can stay a size 2 and keep him from looking around. Ideally shoot for someone old enough that he will likely die or stop caring about sex long before you become old and unattractive. If you shoot old enough you will likely be the youngest he could possibly get anyway so if you are attractive enough and do what he wants in bed you should be able to ride it (and him!) into a comfy financial situation.
